I don't really mind if it's overkill or not - better to be safe than sorry IMO.

My desktop started overheating on idle for no reason last month, it would have broken if I couldn't hear the copper pipe CPU fan running from the living room. It turned out that Logitech's stupid software had a glitch with 64-bit operating systems with its latest update. I think it is better to be safe than sorry, if you can afford it. The water cooler fan I have in my HTPC was $30 after rebate and the thing never overheats even with the cabinet closed. Sometimes I forget to open the doors while rendering videos or gaming and it never complains, it just gets a lot warmer in the cabinet.
-edit-
For the record I consider anything over 65C to be overheating or too hot. I like my parts to last or be resellable. I know these chips can handle 100C no problem for a while, but I guarantee your systems will have problems with it.
I've been running my i5-2500k @ 4.7 Ghz for about 16 months now on air. The temps never go above 70 C, even on a full load.
I got a full tower a couple of months ago, because the airflow helps keep the video cards cooler. I noticed about 5-8 C drop in temps for my EVGA GTX 670 FTW!
Liquid cooling is only necessary if your are doing extreme overclocking or the ambient room temperature is too high. If neither of those are a concern to you then you can save some money and just buy a few extra case fans and be fine. My system is usually around 45C give or take 10 degrees depending on what I'm doing, which is fine.
And honestly I'd say there's a bigger risk with liquid cooling if a seal wears out or something. One bad hose or seal and the whole system is gone.
I have 3 fans not including the CPU, GPU and Power supply fan in my mid case. Never had a problem with overheating.
PS4: Japan's Very First Commercial
So their first ad is basically a tease about how the rest of the world got it before them?
Shame. I hope Sony go extra big for the Japanese launch.
The PS4 is currently leading all next gen sytems as I predicted. The WiiU is up shit creek. The Xbone is really in trouble next month after the PS4 launches in Japan. Its still early yet, by I'm sure the PS4 freight train isnt slowing down anytime soon.
Quote:
4.2 million PlayStation 4s have been sold worldwide since the console launch on November 15 to December 28 - around six weeks. The console hasn’t launched in Japan yet, either. But since Sony is still selling PS4s as fast as it can make them, the sales figure would essentially be 4.2 million even if the console was available globally. PS4s are still out of stock at most retailers - until supply catches up with demand, it’s hard to gauge how high global demand for the console truly is.
3 million Xbox Ones have been sold from its launch on November 22 through December 31, a period of about 5.5 weeks. Like the PS4, The Xbox One isn’t yet available in Japan, and in 2013 Microsoft also sold virtually every console as fast as it could make them. But unlike the PS4, Xbox Ones are now in stock on Amazon, GameStop, and various other retailers - it appears that supply has caught up with launch demand, and in the coming months we should get a clear look at true Xbox One demand.
Nintendo last supplied official Wii U sales data at the end of October, and at that time the company reported 3.91 million Wii Us sold worldwide, after around 11 months of availability. Estimates for cumulative Wii U sales that include the all-important November and December sales periods range from 4.5 million to 5.2 million, but until Nintendo provides real data, these numbers are just best guesses.

We can draw three real conclusions from these stats:
1) The Wii U is in real trouble.
Both Sony and Microsoft nearly erased Nintendo’s year-long lead in a matter of weeks. Both consoles will be in more homes than the Wii U soon, if they aren’t already.
2) The console business is extremely healthy.
PC gaming may be thriving. Mobile gaming may be thriving. But it seems neither category is growing at the expense of the traditional game console. It’s impressive to see just how much stronger and faster the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One were when compared with the problem-plagued launches of the PS3 and Xbox 360.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the following months. While PS4 seems to have great momentum, I'm a bit concerned about the Xbox One. The Wii U sold about 3 million Worldwide in it's first few months too, and we saw how that fizzled out. And considering a lot of people are reporting that Xbox One's are sitting on store shelves I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar situation start to develop.
Wii U seems to have a had a decent bump over the holidays, so it will be interesting to see if the prospect of Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Bayonetta, X, Hyrule Warriors, etc. will be enough to keep up a better momentum than last year. Though I will say that Nintendo does need to do something. I'd say their best bet would be to just drop the price to $199 or $249 and just eat the cost. The 3DS at this point is printing money for them so I'd say they can afford to handle a price cut to get the Wii U install base up to decent numbers.
I agree and respect that statement Trekkies, especially regarding the pricing. However I would say that Smash Bros, Bayonetta, and X will move WiiU systems. The rest will not be enough to for the average casual gamer to walk into a Gamestop and get a WiiU over a PS4 or Xbone. Most current WiiU owners are Nintendo loyalist and gaming enthusiasts, and nothing more. As for me like my sig says, I'll be getting Bayonetta 2 and maybe even X.
Mariokart will probably move some systems too. It was kind of surreal to see how much it sold on the Wii.
I was pretty sure PS4 will take the lead, but I don't think Japan matters for MS... because they already know it won't do much of anything there.
3+ Million with the decided price disadvantage they have is pretty good. I just want it to keep up, because we don't need Sony being the runaway freight train leader this gen. the ~1Mil lead they have on MS is effectively nothing, and can be erased at any moment.
But aside from Nintendo, I like how things are going. But even Nintendo might be able to keep a bit more momentum going into the next year.
xbone has sold 3 million to retail yes. not to actual home's. in germany at least they are sitting on shelves. ps4 is nowhere to be sene in any shop and pre-orders are already backdating to late march
mario kart DS sold like gangbusters too
its the third best selling game with 23.34 million
only nintendogs and new smb top that and nintendogs needed all different versions to get to 24 million units
new smb shifted 31 million
personally i couldnt get along with the extremely cheap cpu and rubberbanding of mario kart wii i prefer the DS interation
and the wii U is dead in the water its been dead in the water for two years now
these big titles will be a shot in the arm and a wii U resurgance but i doubt it will make much difference in the long run
