PlayStation 4 (Official Thread)

So, No Man's Sky has been released. It was one of the games I was really interested in with the PS4.
It's getting pretty mixed reviews, but the ones I am seeing still make it look like it's something I'd be interested in.

Any one here have it? Thoughts on it thus far?

I'll probably still wait to see what Sony has to say about the PS4 neo, if it's going to do more than just upscale video I want to wait for it. And given MS's Scorpio plans, I can see Sony scrambling to add extras onto it if it wasn't planned from the start.

If the steam user reviews are anything to go by, it's a complete mess of broken promises and disappointment.

At the rate it's going, it's looking more and more like a $20 purchase by Black Friday. I think I can wait.

TBH, the premise never attracted me as much as the other console exclusives to come when I purchased my PS4. Primarily because I thought it was going to have a huge emphasis on online multiplayer. The only reason I'm interested in this, other than its exclusive status, is that there is close to zero emphasis on online multiplayer at all, as it turned out.

No Man's Sky is alright as an indie game that accidentally got slapped with a full price tag.

Technically it's pretty impressive but if a sandbox is massive and an inch deep it's not really a fun sandbox to play in, so far everything i've played of it is just gather resources and fly a ship to another planet. Again it looks good and has a nice atmosphere but Witcher 3 also looks very nice and has a great atmosphere but with many alive characters and things to do in it, yeah one had a huge development team and the other didnt, but they both cost the same amount of money.

Ignore the shit about it being Arkham Knight bad on PC, it's a bit stuttery in places when loading new textures but the frame rate never once dipped below 60 save for those stutters when landing on a new planet. Some people just trying to play games on shit rigs and then saying it's unoptimized.

It is unoptimized though. It supposedly has PS4 libraries in it's files that it uses.

NMS has as much depth as Indiana Jones' desktop adventures, but it sure looks fucking nice!

Now if only I could find a planet with some jungles, though I've gone from barren deserts to giant mushrooms so at least the scenery is improving!

8-Bit Eric is doing another livestream of the game right now. He got me interested on the game from his last one (yesterday). It's good to watch someone who has gotten used to the controls, rather than some random trailer. He is very into it.

Lol. I knew that would happen. It's either give their algorithms a free run like this, or make the game super uptight and on rails with only a set number of designed aliens (not necessarily a bad thing, just not for this kind of title). I'm actually hoping I see some more of this. It'll be fun to watch. :rofl:

I'm actually loving NMS, but I'm also the weirdo that loved exploring and mining minerals in the Mass Effect games. I knew this game was going to be my cup of tea (it's such a relaxing experience for me), but it's also a game I couldn't recommend to just anybody.

so i just ordered the physical copy of Rez Infinite, despite iam8bit & all...just realized that between this, Uncharted Collection (still waiting for a $20 copy), MM legacy Collection, that RE one, Valkyria, Last of Us, Dark Souls 2 etc that more than half my PS4 collection is upports/remasters. some great original titles too, but still.

I just held a $60 copy of No Man's Sky in my hands and, even with the 20% off deal you get at Best Buy's gamer's club, I just have this gut feeling this game is going to be $20 by Black Friday. It's not a story driven game like Uncharted 4 or even Doom. I know I will enjoy playing it, but I also can wait.
