The PS3 Slim still looks better, in my opinion.
I don't want come to Sega-16 to comment about Sony so I avoid it but right now I can't help it. :bang:
So one of the big reasons why I have not purchased a PlayStation 4 is the mandatory PlayStation Plus subscription in order to get the full experience by using the online feature of the games. I have been holding out in hopes Sony would reduce or eliminate this mandatory requirement but now I read that starting September 22, PlayStation Plus membership costs for will rise for the yearly plans to $59.99 and three-month subscriptions to $24.99. Sony's statement "The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members." And that is bullshit they need but a tenth of they rake in from all the lemmings feeding it to maintain PSN, it's a cash cow just like Micro$oft Live for the Xbox 360 and One. I never did and never will want a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Another reason is the games them selves, to many remasters, remakes and re-releases also not a huge fan of indie games.
Eighth generation :rip:
I'm not a big online gamer, so the PS Plus thing doesn't matter much to me. I buy a month of PS Plus on occasion when it's advantageous to me, sale-wise. That said, if I played online more, it probably would bug me a bit.
Only thing I don't like about my PS4 (besides lack of backwards compatibility) is the fact that it installs disc-based games to the hard drive. Don't care for that.
I enjoyed the free PSN on PS3, and did end up getting PS+ for PS4 to play Dark Souls III online. The "free" games was a bit of a sweetner, I had a cheap sub around PS4 launch before I had the system so I have a bunch of games piled up, which is nice.
But now all the PS+ games offered are bordering on indie trash and with a price increase? Terrible.
The larger the user base becomes, the lower the price should be per sub.
I guess arrogant Sony is back.
SAVE US NINTENDO! :fail:
The installs to the hard drives is because the system requires faster access that the Blu-ray can not provide. Yes, not something I want to do every time I want to play an older game because the games data is big so one needs to delete shit in order to load up another but I guess a bigger hard drive like a petabyte size of storage would do it. Ha Ha and in a 2.5 package.
PSN+ isn't value for money, I'd agree with that. As Gentlegamer said, the games are mostly indie/mobile phone style games. Biggest insult is you don't really own them, you're just renting them - allow your sub to run out, and lose you access to them.
Xbox Live used to allow you to keep your games, but they've also introduced the same policy regarding game ownership as Sony; only difference is, the "free" games are infinity better value.
But you don't need either service if you have not interest in online play. Just don't buy a sub to either.
I imagine you get more value out of PS Plus if you have more then just one of the supported systems. I have a PS3, PS4, & Vita, so every month's free games usually garner something interesting for at least one of those systems. For example, this month Yakuza 5 is free for the PS3. To be fair, I'm happy to try out various indie games...I've played some awesome ones over the years, and even some decent time wasters.
I've also found that I've generally bought enough PSN games that the PS Plus specific discounts were worth it. (PS Plus members often get greater discounts on sale items).
Free games, as the saying goes "If something is free, you are the product." I have no problem purchasing a game if like it, I do not care about so called free games.
Guys, there are no "Free" games on a system that charges you a la Netflix to play their games. What's worse, they still take-up your valued HDD space. Only the Xbox 360 has ever let you keep the games if you discontinue their online service; but now they're only coming out with shitty online-only indies; which defeats the purpose. There is zero sense of ownership when the games no longer become playable once you stop paying their fees. You're just renting the games.
As for the "look" of the new PS4 (slim), I think it looks nice and slanky. Way neater than my cheapazoid PS3 slim (which I still love, btw).
The only service i've used that doesn't charge you and gives you free games is Origin. Shocking considering it's EA (although Ubisoft did give me Sands of Time for free to celebrate an anniversary)
Not exactly new games, but Allied Assault trumps some shitty indie game that was probably not good enough to sell on it's own merits.
Well... Let's not go that far. My PS3 still provides ;).
Both of those games don't interest me (the Saints Row one is a cut down "mission pack" and the other, just outright isn't something that I like), but yeah, you're right. Sony does have a few games here and there that are worthwhile, but not all the time. The ratio of indie>proper games are far greater.
On the other side of the fence, I just loaded up my Xbox One, and I see they have Beyond Good & Evil as this month's "free" 360 game. Great, I think. Go to download it, and they ask for credit card details. Yeah, not happening. After both services kept auto-renewing my subscriptions even when I turned said feature, and charging me for something I didn't want, I sure as hell wasn't going through that again. So, no "free" game for me then.
So, I tried PlayStation VR today:
I took some footage and photos. Really tired right now to comment. But...
Short version: I'm Sold!
Long version: I'll prob wait out a price decrease (I'm not an early adopter by any means). I'd go in detail, but like I said, I'm really tired right now. Will post pictures and possible video later on.
