Like I said in my post. It's going to be up to Sony and MS to ensure it does. If your game can't get certified unless it supports it, then it will need to support it.

But I agree that if there will not be a PS5 or XboxTwo or whatever then at some point... yes, they will absolutely have to dump support for the older iterations of hardware, just like is done with PC's and mobile devices.

If they go that route, I really want to see them offer decent trade in programs to keep current... If they try and sell me a $300-$500 device every year they can eat it.

As for the power... yes, the PS4 pro is still sadly anemic. Even the Scorpio's assumed specs still aren't up to snuff for "true" 4k gaming (even pc's struggle with it), but still more powerful than the pro.

They should be aiming to give the best 1080p gaming possible IMO, and simply upscale to 4k if you happen to have a 4k TV.

Yes, they should be aiming to give the best 1080p gaming possible. Especially if you say even PC's struggle with 4k. And if they want a competitive and lucrative console price range too. So really, this whole 4k nonsense Sony is sucking the gaming industry in really does seem much too premature.

And I don't see how Sony or Microsoft could even break even with a trade in system or how that could even work.

That's my thoughts on it as well.
The PS4 slim doesn't give you as much as the XB1 S.
The PS4 Pro won't give as much as the Scorpio (and also lacks the 4k Disk support of both the One S and presumably the Scorpio).
Both seem to lack much of the refined design the original PS4 had. It certainly doesn't follow the well thought out design sense the PS3 line carried through its iterations.

I really feel like Sony was caught flatfooted and rushed a "good enough" plan out the door as soon as they were able. Maybe they were already toying with the idea sure, especially the slim version (which is pretty much expected eventually), but it certainly doesn't look like it was fully ready for prime time.

the ps4 pro is purely made with vr in mind. they were definitely not caught off guard by microsoft. they had this planned a whole lot longer as is obvious by the release next month already

^ Yes, you are right. Sony and gimmicks are the blame. All Microsoft is doing is retaliating. Maybe if PS4 Pro fails (wishful thinking), maybe Microsoft will drop Scorpio like Nintendo dropped SNES CD. And maybe that will result in AMD entering the console race. And magical fairies in make belief land... I'm sorry, I lost my train of thought.

We knew the VR thing was coming for a bit. But what we got (slim/pro) both seem to be lacking in overall features and refinement. Which both strike me as seeming rushed.

There's no chance of MS dropping Scorpio. Changing it? sure. But you can be certain that the PS4 pro will sell. It's just a matter of how well.

But Sony already has a slight advantage in terms of console specs. MS wouldn't let them widen that gap even more in addition to letting Sony get a massive feature advantage with in game 4k support without any kind of response.

I have no doubt that, come next year, the Cheeseburger Pro 2/Slim will be out and ready for the release of the Scorpio; all kinds of ready with 4K BluRay disc support and... not much else, really.

Sony's not putting a hard standard on developers here, developers have a choice with what they want to do with the hardware. You see already with Tomb Raider - 4K 30fps mode, standard detail (upscaled ofc), 1080p 30fps high detail mode, and 1080p normal detail framerate unlocked mode (45-60fps).

I expect that to be roughly the standard that developers eventually settle onto. Of course the first year or so of the PS Pro being out is going to be a learning period.

Sony talked about everything but fps. Devs could do 60fps now but put the resources into pretty screen shots and scripted voice acting. Nothing will change. We'll have to brute force higher fps on PC.

i hate it too, but at this point i think it should be obvious that devs seem quite comfortable sacrificing framerate for a higher res, nearly every time

Shouldn't be surprising. It's hard to market framerate to the masses.
Screenshots don't show it. It often doesn't show up well in video's of the game, etc.

But more/prettier stuff on screen? Easy to show, easy to market, easy to sell.

How do you guys feel about Skyrim Special Edition?

I think thats the only interesting game coming out this fall. I was excited for Gran Turismo Sport, but I can no longer purchase it this fall.
