~The "I just beat Ghouls 'n Ghosts" thread~

Just beat the Genesis version on normal difficulty, on a real Genesis, and with no cheating whatsoever. Yes the full two passes.

Near the very end i thought i seriously had myself in a bind though. It was bad enough i accidently lost my knife when i got hit and felt on the sword, but it wasn't till the last stage that i remembered i forgot to get the Goddess Bracelet. So i had to fight my way through a lot of crap with just the sword(later the fire bottle, not much better), and find Golden Armor and a chest.

Why the hell does the goddess take so damn long to give you the bracelet? Grabbed it just in time as i was getting knocked around by several of those eye-cloud bosses, and about to die.

I've NEVER beaten a Ghosts 'n Goblins title on FAIR terms until now(not counting Maximo Vs the army of Zin). I guess i have more discipline now.

congrats pal!! I dont want to be mean but you will be the "ultimate" gamer when you beat ghouls and goblins on the nes THAT is a hard game the genesis game is not that hard

Haha nice job on beating that evil game! GnG on the genesis was one of my Childhood game, but I sucked at it. I plan to play it on the X68k one day.

Ghouls and Ghosts for the Genesis is my preferred version of the series.

Beat it years ago, now put it in Japanese mode (google for the cheat code), which has fewer checkpoints and feels overall a bit harder. Then try any other variant of it (arcade, PS1, Saturn, PS2, X68K) for an even more thrilling time.

I don't think I know what the Goddess Bracelet is. I've beaten the Genesis and Arcade versions of Ghouls N Ghosts with one Continue. Prior to that I played the thing into the ground on the Genesis with invincibility and, like Target Earth, learned the game well enough that I realized it wasn't that hard anymore. The day I walked into an Arcade and saw the the game is one I will never forget, playing through it flawlessly with the exact same muscle memory as the Genesis version was a definite first for me.

I am currently trying to finish the arcade version on the PSP.
The only one I've got to finish was the Master System version, that is a lot easier.

One important rule of Ghouls 'n Ghosts....death is infinity more preferable to taking a shitty weapon!

Example: Lets say you're doing awesome on your first attempt at a stage, got the golden armor, etc. But you open a chest that has a SHITTY weapon which is partly getting in the way of progressing further.

Don't even risk it. If you try to jump over it and screw up, you are STUCK with that damned weapon for who knows how long, and you'll probably end up dieing anyway. So just jump off a cliff and begin at the checkpoint with your GOOD weapon in tact.

Took me a long time to realize that.

Ghouls n Ghosts isn't THAT hard... I've only ever gotten to level 5 of loop 1 of Ghosts n Goblins, and only ever to the second level of loop 1 of Super Ghouls n Ghosts, but Ghouls n Ghosts for the Genesis? I beat the game a couple of days after buying it, last year I think.

I mean, it's tricky, but it's not anywhere near as hard as those other two games, and you also get infinite continues as well, to make it even easier versus the NES or SNES versions of those other games. But even the versions of those games with saving (Ghosts n Goblins for GB/C for instance, and SG&G for GBA) are still really, really hard... while Genesis Ghouls n Ghosts just isn't quite as tough. I think it's well-balanced, the Genesis one is actually fun, unlike SG&G which is just a numbing mountain of impossible.

I've never been a big fan fan of the series but it's my favorite installment as well.

Congratulations on your conquest. Now it's time for you to topple Target Earth/Assault Suit Leynos without any cheats :P .

How hard is Gouls 'n Ghosts for the Genny compared to, say, Contra: Hard Corps?

I'm still trying to beat Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I got to the final boss the first time.
