PS1 because Square/Enix was on fire back then and released so many good titles on PS1.
Also PC Engine CD Rom is probably the correct answer most of the games didnt make it to the US making them unplayable.
SNES with a Powerpack, or the PS2, because you can play both PS1 and 2 games on it.
You don't even have to just play the Squeenix RPGs.
^ same reason why i chose the ps2
you can play both ps1 and ps 2 games on it and there is an enormous library of rpgs on both not just the square and enix games
Waterfaller, I never really thought of Secret of Mana as an RPG. It's more of an adventure game with RPG elements. It plays a lot like Zelda LttP.
I'll vote SNES. PS1 is pretty good too. PC Engine CD is also quite respectable when it comes to RPGs, but most are in japanese.
Snes hands down.
You cannot even intelligently argue this point.
The NES sets it all up, then the SNES takes you for the vacation of a lifetime.
As A matter of fact, Not one of the Ps1 RPG's would even have seen the light of day if it weren't for the forefathers of the SNES.
And as much as everyone loves their Earthbound( I do too),
Its not the best one(not even 2nd IMO) on the console. Chrono Trigger was.
And then there was Illusion of Gaia while most would argue this isn't an rpg, to me it is.
Hell, why am I even pointing this out?
My best RPG memories on console are with the SNES and the Final Fantasy series. I do have a PSP though, with all of the North American Final Fantasy games and Final Fantasy IV: The complete collection.
The PSP has RPGs from the SNES, Playstation and PS2. It's even got Persona. I just need to find more time to play all of the RPGs I've bought for the little handheld. It does rock!
I fully expect someone to say powerful pc because you can emulate every console hurr hurr.
The PC is not fair, as all the consoles were MADE with computers.
Of course its the ultimate system to play the games on.
But that's just being silly.
I'm gonna say DS because I've not much experience with SNES rpgs, and I don't really play PC. Plus DS has it's share of the hyped SNES re-releases like Crono Trigger, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.
