For fans of wing commander, elite, and freelancer. a new game star citizen.......

Hi, if your like me and enjoy a good romp through space, and lets face it anyone who grew up with the original star wars trilogy knows what i'm talking about. Check this new game out -

It has been funded by crowd funding and donations (packages) on the website, the team is headed up by Chris Roberts (wing commander, freelancer fame) and his independant team have built a very impressive looking universe. The game itself has two different modes, star citizen looks to be in the vein of freelancer, and squadron 42 a military career mode more like wing commander. Here is the trailer -

I've been looking forward to this game. I grew up with Wing Commander! StarLancer for the Dreamcast is amazing too!

Wow, I might actually buy a new game for the first time in years when this comes out. Here's hoping it doesn't suffer from "X Beyond the Frontier" syndrome.

As a Wing Commander super-fan you're not telling me anything I wasn't already on top of :) .

I really hope Roberts delivers but I can do without all the "PC games are superior" grandstanding even though I understand the sentiment since simulation games like Wing Commander and MechWarrior were always at home on the PC and never really worked well on consoles (StarLancer is fun on DC but it's still a half-assed port of the PC version).

Only problem is I'll have to save up for a new PC to run the damn thing. I hope the single player aspect is as fleshed out as the old Wing Commander games because I really don't care about playing online games anymore.

I doubt it. Roberts has always followed Origin's "We Create Worlds" motto in regards to his game design.The Wing Commander series had one of the most richly developed space opera universes out there. I don't expect it to be a soulless economy simulator that German developers seem to love so much.

I'm glad he finally realized creating interactive worlds is more his forte than directing movies.

Oh, I never actually got around to playing X. After years of watching the demo on three generations of PC hardware I forgot about it. ;)

Oh haha, I didn't realize you were talking about the development time and not the fact that it was a terrible game.

That's being unfair though. I guess the X series has a lot of fans but I personally hate it.

Early adopter/donor here. If the open world part sucks, at least I will get to play the next great single player space combat sim, for only $30. They have blown the doors off of the original crowdfunding effort, so I think we are in for quite a treat. My co-workers, and I are talking about forming a small smuggling company. :cool:

I understand the dislike of PC fanboys around here, but this does look like an actual next gen game, as opposed to the PS4/XBONE. Those just seem very current gen.5 to me, now that the hype has calmed down a bit, and I've looked at them "under the sunlight".
This game is looking to bring my current PC to its knees. I'll need at least a small upgrade when the full launch happens.:(
