Is Nintendo for kids?

This became apparent when I was watching this Game Sack episode(I think its sponsored by Sega-16?):

Flagship first party racers:

Sega: Kinda hard to determine. Virtua Racing, Daytona, Sega Rally.

Sony: Gran Turismo.

Nintendo: Mario Kart.

Going back to 16-bit era, black Genesis vs. purple SNES. Sleek Sonic vs. fatass Mario. Blood vs no blood.

So in your opinion, do you see Nintendo as, "just for kids"?

I remember in the high-school days, I skipped out on the Gamecube because it wasn't getting GTA(perhaps Rockstar didn't see that demographic in the Gamecube).

nintendo isnt just for kids
its family friendly and aims at a broad demograph
and thats why their franchises tend to look cartoony so it can appeak to everybody
( and the sales numbers support that this approach works and then some )

but just because they look cartoony doesnt mean they are easy ( or fair for that matter the AI on mario party and on higher difficulties in mario kart are cheating fucking bastard )

Gamecube had at least 4 rally games, something that got no mention in Mr. Redifer's video. I have Rally Championship for Gamecube and it is highly enjoyable.

Is Nintendo for kids? Not always.

If we're talking about racing games, Nintendo systems has had their fair share of them. I tend to like racing games on other systems and arcades more, but that's personal preference.

Again, Nintendo should've brought over the Super Famicom design. Very sophisticated. Not a toy.

I like the Gamecube, especially for the Game Boy Player. Sweet piece of kit.

As far as GTA?... I don't care for it. Does a game have to be GTA to be considered mature? Absolutely not. Is a system required to have GTA on it in order to be mature? No.

Nintendo might appeal to many audiences, but they can be mature if they choose to be. 3rd party developers help that too.

Dakar 2 is an excellent Gamecube title. I've had lots of fun with that one. A shame it had no mention.

Don't forget the two Top Gear Rally games for N64 either.

Is Lego for kids only? Millions of manchildren disagree. Just because something is family-friendly doesn't mean it's not enjoyable by most..

Since no one else will be honest and is just beating around the bush here, I will be the one to just come clean and admit it.

Here lets see the only games the wii had that were sketchy at best,
Manhunt and Manhunt 2:

Violence and gore. Manhunt gained significant controversy after it was alleged that the game inspired a teenager to commit a murder. Banned in Australia.

Manhunt 2 has been labeled as possibly the most violent video game ever made and is infamous for being one of only two video games to receive an "Adults-Only rating" due to violence, the other being The Punisher.

Further controversy surrounds the Wii version due to the fact that it actually simulates the violence through motion control, dubbing it the name "murder simulator".


Bully:

Violence, bullying and sex (notably bisexual themes) in a school setting.

Mario Party 8:

Use of the phrase "Turn the train spastic! Make this ticket tragic!" by the character Kamek caused controversy in the United Kingdom, where the word spastic is considered offensive.
This led to a recall of the game; it was later re-released with the word changed to erratic.

MadWorld:

The game's extreme, over-the-top violence has led to much criticism, and has been described by the Daily Mail as the "most violent video game ever".
Also, the Nintendo Wii has been long-perceived as little more than a "family-friendly" console, and as a result, many parental organizations have condemned the game's release exclusively on the Wii.

So a little nudity, some gay themed characters, a supposed curse word, and fantasy violence.

And that's as far as it goes on the wii.

And I was talking about the most recent complete game set THE Wii.
Sure they make a few games that are up there in controversy only to keep the "image" that you have of them in your mind, but this is opinions here, and mine is such.
And you like to speak for everyone like you have a clique or something.

You know what...gamecube and after yes it's all for kids. The nintendo library of games on the gc + wii is so child friendly. NES / SNES / gb / gbc / gba era is where nintendo shines.

Here's a few games off the top of my head for the Wii that aren't made for kids specifically:

No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2. Yeah. 2 is better.

Tatsunoko VS. Capcom. If you're a kid and you say you remember those characters from decades back, you're lying. Unless you picked up some DVDs and played some classic games.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Not for kids. Adults will appreciate this one more.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. Don't let the visuals fool you. The story is complicated. Kids would have trouble relating to it.

There are many more for the Wii, but this isn't a Wii thread, is it?

Great stuff on these systems.

You could make an argument that all games are "for kids". Why else would 95% of online M rated games like Call of Duty be annoying kids?
