I got scammed once when I ordered Power Strike for the SMS from a seller on half.com. The seller advertised it as the US version and he sent me the EU version. Boy was I pissed! I reported him to ebay (which owns half.com) and got a refund.
I've gotten nearly screwed over a few times, but thankfully, it worked out in the end.
One time came from buying a new Performance memory card for my Saturn. I got it, and it was dead three months later. I contacted Performance, and told them what happened. I was expecting to be told I was SOL or something, but they asked me to send it in and they'd replace it. I did, and a fair number of weeks later, a replacement showed up. I still have that one too.
Then there was the dual auction on ebay for Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf and E-SWAT, with both being complete and in great shape. What showed up? Two games with ripped up and sun faded cover art, one missing a manual, the other with the manual looking like it was tossed into a pool, both carts had rips and gunk on their labels... it was just blatant. But the kicker? The picture on the auction showed two copies in great shape that were clearly taken with a personal camera while the games sat on a table, and the seller said they used stock photos, so what was in the picture was never what I was going to get. Nothing lined up at all between the photo, description, and auction title, and what I received, yet "I use stock photos" was their excuse for all that. Needless to say, a case was opened and I got my money back. I ended up getting complete copies of the games later on, and making a few bucks off of selling the horrid copies I'd gotten off of ebay.
I think that's about it. Well, there was one instance where I ordered a copy of Battle Chess Collection and it arrived snapped into three pieces (they mailed it in a paper sleeve that was put in a small bubble envelope), but they replaced that pretty quickly.
You're gonna scammed regardless what happens when you order stuff online, get used to it. I've been scammed with a few Mega Drive games, a couple Saturn games, PS2, PS1, Dreamcast games, films, CDs.
Just file a claim, hope you get your money back, and move on.
I have never been scammed for a videogame actually. The only odd thing I had was somebody send me a copy of Waku Waku 7 on accident. I kept the game for a day or 2 played it and mailed it to the guy that was suppose to get it.
I remember three occasions were I genuinely felt I had been scammed and all three were connected to Sega-16 in one way or another.
Bought a PAL Mega CD 1 from Adam Thompson aka 64k

Never got it, never heard from him again, filed a claim via PayPal and got my money back. Dude never logged in again ever since.
Bought a copy of Pier Solar from Crazy Climber

Never got it, claimed he had sent it out, even showed me some photo he claimed he made AFTER having the Post office clerk processing it !?
Third time I got scammed was when I sold Star Odyssey to "makinagenesis" (aka "snesgenesis" on ebay). I sent it out insured and with online tracking. He claimed he never got it. I sent him the tracking number along with a detailed explanation how to enter it at the Deutsche Post website. Seemed like he purposely overlooked the info in two more emails... A few days later he opened a case at PayPal. I felt pretty confident because I had all the paper work at hand but it didn't help as PayPal decided in his favor despite the online tracking clearly showed he signed for it. Turns out the problem really was that PayPal/ebay.co.uk didn't support proper tracking via Deutsche Post service. As PayPal was asked to enter date and the tracking code manually to access the tracking results it probably is why they decided in his favor.
I hired Deutsche Post research service the day the PayPal case was opened and a few weeks after the case was closed they sent me a letter which confirmed the guy did indeed receive the game.

Awesome. Fricken people man.
I really don't feel the need to vent about the times people attempted to scam me. I'm just glad we're able to do internet trading it makes finding rare stuff much easier than when I was a kid. Living with the scamming is just a small price to pay for easily finding all this awesome with just a quick internet search.
Oh lol, i remember this one. I cannot believe he pulled this off for a sign on receipt package....
As for me I was sold defective stuff a few times.
The most notorious case was when I bought a x68k compact computer from an American seller and it was supposed to be mint and 100% working.
The guy took his sweet time shipping it and when it got there it was not working properly and some of the accessories supposed to be included were missing.
Turned out the dude had not powered it up in over two years ( he admitted ) and the caps Had dried up in the meantime.
So I had to do a full recap of the machine, all 70-ish SMD caps of em. In the end it fixed it at least.
I asked him for money compensation for my trouble but I was actually dumb and waited too long because I tried solving it directly with the seller and when I wanted to open an ebay case the 45 day period was expired.
I was completely at his mercy. In the end he sent me 35$ ( which barely covers the price of the caps) and took 2 months to ship me the accessories that were missing.
I also got sold a defective playchoice RGB ppu. Once again the seller had not properly tested it and it ended up in a huge bullshit and hassle. This time I filed a paypal case, got the chip expertized by Drakon and was refunded but I still lost money in the end.
I just read that thread you linked to.
Wow that is one disturbed individual!
Fortunately thus far I haven't been scammed as far as receiving an item is concerned.
My beef on occasion tends to be with the condition of the items that I receive because those particular idiots don't know or care to package any better.
My 6 year old self at a KayBee Toys hoping to find a Copy of NES Double Dragon:
"Do you have Double Dragon?"
"Some sleazy office worker looking jerk in a suit & tie(at KBToys?!)"
Guy: "We don't have it, but.... we have THIS"
http://cdn.wikimg.net/strategywiki/i...ar_NES_box.jpg
Guy: "This is BETTER than Double Dragon"
*My extremely naive self is bought in by this, and my mom didn't know a damned thing about videogames, so i have no second opinion there to stop me. I spend my sparse allotment of game money on it. Take it home and see that its the BIGGEST piece of shit ever, and NOT better than Double Dragon*
Oddly enough, this would be my first ever exposure to what would become my all-time favorite anime series ever and endless source of inspiration in tough times. Was there ever a greater and more virtuous main hero? I submit that there is not.
This guy makes tears appear manly.

That's funny. I sold $300 in games to makinagenesis (including Star Odyssey) last year and had zero problems with the transaction. Maybe I got lucky, but as far as his heist thread, I just figured he had a dark sense of humor, which can sometimes be right up my alley.
