I have always been fascinated by the startup themes of SEGA games. My personal favorite is the Jurassic Park startup when the trex roars SEGA!!! I also really love the generic SEGA CD startup with Sonic and the sparkly SEGA. So what is some of you guys favorites? I am curious to see if I have missed any cool ones!
I love them all! Sega Logo's are nothing but fun, I wish the company logo craze didn't ruin it all.
I like the one in Taz-Mania where Taz spins up and eats the "S".
Just to be clear, are you only talking about up to the logo or the title screen? Because my favourite intro would be Thunder Force 4 if it is the latter.
Virtua Racing's polygon "SEGA" intro is pretty cool.
M.U.S.H.A. has a nice intro with scaling "SEGA" letters.
Sonic 1 without a doubt.
My favorite SEGA logo start-up would be Pulseman; using the larger SEGA logo commonly seen from Sonic 2 looks great in Pulseman with electricity running through it as it fades into view against the white-noise backdrop and screen flickering. Pretty neat and translates well with the theme of the game.
Favorite game intros would be M.U.S.H.A. Aleste and Gley Lancer; I love a layer of narrative depth to a game - having a story and cast of characters that lend themselves to be incorporated into the game provides a certain relationship with the player which keeps it from appearing one-dimensional or generic. I'm also a fan of the anime-style and it's executed elegantly in both.
Ranger-X had a very cinematic intro that completely enticed me the first time I happened across it. The ambiguity of the invading ships, dramatic track playing with the roll of credits made it feel so much different than other games at the time. The use of sprite-drawn rotation and scaling - man Ranger-X is a work of art, truly.
Thunder Force IV - the Leo Rynex rushing through a hail of enemy fire as "Lightning Strikes Again" plays (on full volume) is stunning as the title cascades into itself and blindingly erupts on the ending guitar riff. Excellent.
Lastly - Gunstar Heroes has my favorite title screen as Golden Silver stands menacing in the center screen engulfed in a flume of fire, the score is poetically heavy, the lettering creatively large and in your face just in case you hadn't noticed how cool the name of the game sounded.
Vectorman definitely stands out for me. Not only does it look cool, but it's very likely the only interactive Sega logo in the entire catalog. Being able to get the hidden power-up and shoot at it, causing it to burn out, is also awesome. Can't do that shit with any other Sega logo.

My dad was always really impressed by the Sonic 1 intro, he was kinda sad when I got newer games for it and they didn't have that epic intro.

some of the earlier games still have this older design, like SOR1, Castle of Illusion, etc.
I've never really been big into the Master System, But I recall the SMS using the 1st logo,
I guess they decided for a small redesign when the Mega Drive came around.
Loving the Toejam & Earl logo, with the funky music and the spaceship jumping the logo :-)
I usually get a chuckle out of the Aladdin one.

Yes I dig that Genesis start up logo (2nd in Neo's I mean Vamp's picture) as I remember it as a kid (in SOR), but I like the Vectorman type Logo scenes where you can shoot at logo or how in EC you watch a character attack it. I don't much like the sms type (1st in Vamp's picture) logo/start up. I think Altered Beast md had it too, (bought genesis in 1989) but I wasn't paying attention to start logos really.
Chalk up another vote for Comix Zone. Gotta love that Elvis styled intro!

Like I said, I knew the early md games looked like sms logos, and said I don't much like them, hence I said Altered Beast md in 1989, but liked 2nd logo (which yes you explained changed a bit).

The SOR1 Sega logo looks different from the Scramble Spirits Sega logo, do different SMS games have different Sega logos? (I know some have Sega Mark III logos) I also know that some copies of Aleste/Power Strike have a Sega logo, whereas others have a Sega Mark III logo.

No. That's a Sega logo, not the Mark III logo. This is a Mark III logo (there are at least 4 variations from what I know):Quote:

My copy of Power Strike has a slightly different Sega logo than Scramble Spirits, but as I've already said, I believe some copies have a Mark III logo instead. I saw a video of the Japanese version of Aleste being played on a Mark III (can't remember where I saw it though :(), and it had a Mark III logo rather than a Sega logo mine has:

They are all sega related logos, my point was double dragon uses the first picture logo. Other games on sms and early md use 3rd picture logo (yes ?) so to answer you, yes I think sms used different start up logos like md (and I'm not even thinking of mark 3 at all just 2 of 3 pictures you posted they look different). Thanks, never saw 2nd picture, mark 3 logo before. Pictures in newest post are a lot more clearer. :cool:
Master System games generally didn't have a Sega logo built into them, the Sega logo was built into the Master System. Some Master System games did have pre-game logos though. We had a thread a while back that explained why some Genesis cart logos early on had the logo with the gradient and not the standard logo.
The Sega logo on my 3rd picture is different from SOR1's Sega logo. I don't know about other early MD games; I'll have to check.Quote:

I've had a look at my early MD games. I checked Super Thunder Blade, Space Harrier II, Super Monaco GP, Super Hang On, Alien Storm, Revenge of Shinobi, Columns, Outrun, Alex Kidd, Altered Beast, and Tetris. None of them had SOR's Sega logo. Most (if not all) had the 3rd picture logo (albeit sharper; like SOR2's Sega logo), though some had ® and others had TM, while others had nothing else. Tetris is the only one I explicitly remember having the logo with the ®. They also had different logo animations.Quote:

My single favorite would have to be for Ecco: Tides of Time on Sega CD. You know it's going to be a mind-blowing experience, when the Sega logo is deep underwater, with bubbles and New Age music playing lol.

Can't even rmember if this is a Sega system or not(think it is) but there is a Jurassic Park game where the kid is fishing of the cresent moon and he gets a bite falls off screaming and you hear a dinosaur roaring and eating him.
