DAGarden, what is the television are you using? Make and model would be nice but if can't general info will suffice. There could be a small chance it's the TV? Also what are you using to hook up to said television?

I'm using a 16" HD-Ready Alba (I think the model number is LCDW16HDF) with an RGB Scart cable video/audio connection. I think it's either the TV or the cable that's at fault, but I really don't know. I guess I should try it on another TV (the one in the lounge, for example) and see if the issues are rectified first.
EDIT: Got around to testing on my living room TV, and the same problems persist, so I'm thinking it's either the cable or the Mega Drive II itself. I'm going to look into getting another RGB Scart cable first and if that doesn't fix the issue, I'm going to look into getting another Mega Drive.
Hey all. Ime hoping someone may be able to help with what seems to me a strange problem!
So I have a Mod 2 Mega Drive, Mod 2 CD and a 32x setup.
Having recently only just re-aquired these Jems my game collection is slim so I started by buying my childhood faves and a Everdrive X5 until I can build my collection up more.
1 of the games I got was Micro Machines Turbo Tournament 96.
Now the problem I am having is that not long after starting the game it will either freeze or more often reset itself. Now normally I would put that down to dirt or a damaged cart.
But I have cleaned all the contacts to no avail.
Intrestingly though I get the exact same problem if I run the game through the Everdrive!
Now I have run some of my other games on the set up problem free and other games on the everdrive again with no issues.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? Could it be I have a damaged cart and rom? Could it be a hardware incompatibility with the 32x/CD? Could my MD just not like the game? Is it because its a J cart?
Really am stumped on this one.
Any help appreciated :)
I hope the 68000 isn't going bad in your MD2. I had very similar issues afflict a VA2.3 of mine (big glitches in Aladdin, occasional lock-ups under Streets of Rage 3, etc.), I had to swap the CPU (thank GOODNESS for SRA fast chip!) to fix it. Could also be a flaky RAM chip.
Have you tried cleaning the contacts of your system with Brasso? That stuff works way better than alcohol alone in my experience. You get one of those cleaning wands for the console, spread a tiny, thin bead of brasso across the cleaning surface of the wand, and swab the console's cartridge contacts with it. Wait about 3 minutes, then wipe off the cleaning surface, and clean off the residue using the wand dipped in alcohol. Repeat until all the residue is gone.
If you're worried about brasso scraping up your contacts or would rather not deal with the residue, you can alternatively try deoxit, but it's a little spendy.
This is worth a shot too: http://retrorgb.com/cleangames.html
What is the amperage of the 5v on the Genesis AV port?
Wait, are you trying to run an NTSC game on a PAL console? Some games simply don't like being run outside of their target country. The PAL version of Kid Chameleon, for instance, will randomly lock up on The Final Marathon, when run on an NTSC Genesis.
Although it could be the MD at fault, I'd like to look into other possibilities first. Dirty contacts, incompatible region, etc. If you're handy with a multimeter, Superjesus's suggestion is worth looking into as well (bad power supplies can also cause crazy things to happen).
The wand I use is from an old Genesis cleaning kit. You might be able to find something that works on eBay. Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Freque...sAAOSwZB9aGd1b The cleaning stuff is probably long dried out, but you could use denatured alcohol instead.
Ok well a small update on my problem.
I brought a 1 up console cleaner cartridge and used that in my 32x and Mega Drive, And it certainly brought some crap out.
Ive also acquired and played a few more original games (All the Sonics and Knuckles) with no issues what so ever and of the other odd games I have played on my everdrive no issues there either EXCEPT I tried Micro Machines 2 out of curiosity and that also freezes!
I am intending on trying Military and Pete Samprus later just to confirm but it would appear at this stage its something to do with J-Cart games.
No idea why that would be though, Anyone have any ideas?
Huh. Does Aladdin / Jungle Book / Cool Spot play well without glitches?
Ile give them a go later and get back to you, Why those games out of interest?
Further update:
It seems the fault is with my Mega Drive.
I acquired another MD2 the other day and I hooked it up to the 32X and test run the game with no issues using the same controllers/power leads/av etc.
The only difference was I did not hook it up to the CD but I wouldn't of thought that would of made any difference?
I probably would of hooked it up to the CD but the new MD has a faulty power connector so its probably going to go back. Couldn't be arsed swapping all the plates over etc just to take it off again.
Still cant work out why it only Effects the Jcart games so far though :s
The reason I ask, is I noticed that VA2/2.3 systems with bus/68000 problems typically have major graphical glitches/lockups with games made using Virgin's Cool Spot engine. I was wondering if that extended to other revisions of the Model 2 as well.
Out of morbid curiousity, does the problem MD2 have a Hitachi HD68HC000?
