Does the 32X region match your MegaDrive? I doubt it's the cables as that would make the MD video look bad as well.

Thanks Chilly, how can I determine if my 32x is pal or ntsc? my megadrive is pal. I bought the 32x from a uk seller, it came in pal box with english like power adaptor, moreover the plastic case reads megadrive 32x not genesis or something like that.
units match in current case...
PAL 32X will only output PAL, it has a fixed 4.xMHz crystal in it.
can I determine from the internals if the 32x is pal or ntsc? I've opened it up to check it and in the mainboard it has typed NTSC but after some search I learned that all 32x are ntsc like and the difference in pal and ntsc is in some pins on the mainboard.
@Ghaleon, I dont have access to ntsc television, moreover the rf adapter cable is pal (with switch to pal/e pal b/g). I am waiting for a scart cable to check is something is messed up with the cables
what is written on a possibly shiny metal component that has "squashed cycinder" shape ?
Perhaps someone hacked that unit for NTSC? The video timing for horizontal and vertical sync come from the MD1, but if its video is fine, the sync should be fine. Unless the clock in the 32X was somehow way off, it's hard to think of what else could affect the 32X video without affecting the MD as well.
I'm intersted to know about the number written on that metal component... if it starts with 3, it means its NTSC modded, if 4, then its PAL.
Ok I will check it as soon as I get back home. Can you tell me where this metal component is located?
Right side, at the edge of the board. its in upright position.
it's 4.4336 so its pal :(
I also checked it with the new scart cable that arrived today with no results. MD carts play fine but 32X carts no. Sometimes if I move the 32x unit or the cables the picture seems to show a bit better but still inplayable quality. With the opportunity to have it open I removed and re-placed again the ribbons connecting the 2 boards (the one with the processors and the other with the cart slot) I noticed a blue cable connecting to a pin in the base of the rightmost ribbon. That pin looks like it doesnt connect to the ribbon, is that how it should be?
Thanks for your time and answers
I guess you have hicely cleaned up MD slot, 32X slot, and 32X connector on bottom ?
32X is very bitchy about the Hsync pin on the cartslot...
That blue wire is on its own, and make sure you won't break it, otherwise you'll get non booting or highly unstable system.
Its all clean and tidy, I am convinced that something is malfunctioning in the unit, but I'll give it another try in a mega drive model 2 I am receiving soon. BTW which is the hsync pin on the cartslot?
