Open up your scart lead and cut the connection to pin8. You lose the autoswitch function, but it won't be in 16:9 either.
If you want the autoswitch and 4:3 mode you have to put 10-12V in that pin instead of 5V. The problem is that the MD video plug doesn't have any voltage higher than 5V.

im just wondering what the bootleg market is like on the megadrive.
im asking because i got a contra hard corps cart (jpn) of ebay when it turned up it just didnt look right, on the label there was no md graphic or konomi logo,nor was it the normal jpn region shape ;it was a normal md shape and the cart was abit flimsy like a snap shut with no security screws or sega logo on the back.
what thing should i look for in identifying boots?
ive got a neo-geo so im normaly quite on the ball when it comes to this type of shit,but ive only just got back into the md.
any help or advice would be appreciated ,

I too, have a tech problem. I recently bought a Sega Genesis Model 1 from gamesboro.net. It was used, but i didn't think much of it. When it arrived, i immediately plugged it in. Unfortunately, there are little black specks and a SLIGHTLY wavy distortion in the picture. It's not unplayable, just very annoying. The specks/wavy effect are in every cart i ever tried. I even bought a Genesis AV cable just to see if it wasnt the RF. It wasn't. Any suggestions?
P.S My friend and I opened it up and tried cleaning it a bit. Everything seemed intact.
Bootlegged games generally have all copyright related stuff taken away from covers, usually they have no manual either. Cartridges tend to have a small notch on left so they could be used in JP machines.Quote:

you can fix that only with another controller if the silicon rubber button under the plastic button is worn out.
How do you fix the cartridge slot? Many of the contacts have lost their spring, and dont make good connections.
so i bought a model 1 HDG sega genesis, but theres one problem i hook it up and everything is set right. and all it shows is a black screen on the tv. the cart slot and cart itself is clean, and i know its not the rf adapter because i was running my famicom on the same one. does anyone think buying the 9pin av cables would help any or is it something else?

It depends on which RGB encoder IC you have. the first 2 you posted work on a CXA1145p/m. The Capacitor/resistor circuit only works on the CXA1645.Quote:

If you have the Samsung KA IC, I hear its terrible encoder.
I've seen some people play 32X games on a CDX. I thought that CDXs were not compatible with 32Xs. If this is true, how would one mod a CDX to recognize a 32X add-on?
so i scrubbed the pins inside the HDG genesis and still just a black screen no sound or anything i think i might just get av cables.
@roguetrip: I have a Genesis 2 with VA1 board...but it has the 1145. So I should be good on that front...And the simpler mod seems to be the way to go.
@jollie: did you try using rubbing alcohol on the games? (sorry if its been suggested) I had the same exact thing, and after cleaning the cartridges, they work on first insert 95% of the time. also, if you have the cover off, try angling the cartridge. If nothing gives you the game, then its probably the cable.
