You have to press A/B/C to get into the options on power up, it'll take a moment before it recognizes your CD.
Usually that is a good sign: The less control you got via RGB the better.
Sharpness control is a bad thing anyway. Setting it to 0 or deactivating are the only good settings for sharpness control.
While I think it's preferable to stick with your CRT, this definitely does seem like a very good solution to hook up your Genny to your HDTV.
You can find them on ebay for ~ $60: http://shop.ebay.com/hdmi+scart+converter
Errr - it's been a while since my days in the TV repairshop... what does the flyback have to do with the sharpness? Perhaps you mean the deflection yoke? The flyback (as far as I remember) is just part of the circuit used to create the sawtooth wave that drives the yoke. Maybe you mean you adjust things to make a more linear sawtooth, which would affect scanning accuracy of the electron beam. GAH! Gimme an LCD any time! :D
I recall poeple calling that transformer where the generally red cable going to the tube with few kV of power flyback transformer... most TVs and monitors I've seen have focus and one more knob on them adjusting overall brightness of the image. anyway, I reforcus things too :P
...and I need to replace some more caps in my TV because the sawtooth is a little distorted and I can see some things being a little off.
as for LCDs, I've yet to see one that does not suffer from motion blur (even the ultr@ fast 2ms ones are a little bad....) and actually have some contrast to speak of.
I wanna see an LED TV at close, plasma is fun, with waaaaay better colors than LCD, but still not coming close to a CRT :)
Hmm - the flyback is also used to create the really high voltage used to bias the picture tube. That affects the overall brightness, and I suppose can cause the beam to make a larger dot when scanning. Usually when the picture tube goes black, it's either the flyback transformer, or the horizontal oscillator output transistor. We always carried tons of those for most TVs are they were about 90% of all calls we made.
The brightness one is a don't care, its best not to mess with it :P but the focus one is fun :)
Do you think nothing will blow up if I have a 100µF capacitor instead of a 47µF ones in my TV's horizontal stuff area ? I don't want to take risks and have some capacitor will lower voltage rating there, but all 100V caps I have are 100µF or more... and I'm not too comfortable with TVs so I don't want to experiment :P
...and this is how I want my image to be (its little better, but its difficult to photograph a CRT with a soap box with no tripod :P)

If it's not part of the oscillator or voltage multiplier, changing the capacitance shouldn't affect it negatively. Just watch those voltage ratings and polarity! :)
Hello all
I have a Sega CDX that will play cart games fine and play music cds however it will not load any cd games
Any help would be great thanks
I have my Sega Mega Drive 2 video game and when I connect this console to my TV it does not seem to work. I only see the blacking screen after switching it ON.
And also the same problem is there with my 32x Booster for Sega Mega Drive 2.
Please help :(
What cable to you use (RF/antenna?) , and where do you live (Europe, US, etc.) ?
I use these cables:

I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the voltage supply cause I use to play it on the same TV in the same place a few years ago. Now it doesn't work :(
Probably needs a damn good clean on the inside if you haven't used it for years. At least take the top off, get yourself an old toothbrush and some methylated spirits (rubbing alcohol I believe the Americans call it), hold the console upside down and give the connector and damn good scrub. Also get cotton bud (alright Q-tips to the Americans) with said Methylated spirits and give the game pins and damn good rub over too. If you see black on the cotton bud, you have kicked a goal.
or maybe you need to clean your games ?
