Yes, 9v with 1A or more amps is good for Genesis/Mega Drive. You can run it with 6,6v-16v adapter with has at least 600mA output but it is always preferable to use higher output than console is taking so that brick don't get too hot. So 9V-12V 1A adapter from ebay and you are safe. I use every day basis 4 x 10v 1A Nokia size bricks with classic consoles to save space on my wall outlet expansion cord because original ones were huge bricks.

And if Genesis has fired then I think 7805 regulator is dead and it is very easy to replace but then again, the after market power supplies don't provide that much viltage to fire a regulator usually. Don't know where you have heard these rumours but usually using the ones that has Nintendo Nes minus tip on 5.5mm plug are the ones that fire 7805 in Genesis like instantly.

How ever if you intend to use your power brick on Genesis2 or CD2 or Sega CDX then you need 4.7-8mm adapter for it.

Absolutely! Because posting a huge fix for the 32x s-video circuit is completely unhelpful. To me "helping" someone involves teaching them that they are capable of answering the more obvious questions on their own.

Well have you been in school when you were kid? In my country youngsters have been taught centuries that no question is retarded, only answer may be. So don't relay getting proper answer from retarded people. If one is a noob, he has always basic questions (happens in every where from real life to gaming communities) that experienced retarded persons may say "one asking retarded/stupid/silly/laughable/idiotic questions". While you may be partially correct with asking more obvious questions then you need to give those helping instructions to their knowledge in proper manner without insults and sarcasm and such. This thread is just for this kind of questions and no experienced hardware gurus should answer to post if they don't intend to give proper response.

I wasn't aware intelligence was a substitute for human decency

EDIT: not to mention there have been systems that froze periodically even when they functioned properly (ZX spectrum comes to mind)

Check for capacitors. They might be going bad and thus it produces those artifacts.

Really? That's odd. I find it bizarre a system would freeze randomly unless it's poorly built.

A dirty cart slot can cause a console to freeze randomly...

I meant replacing them. Model 1 Megadrives are 20 years old at the very least, whilst the cheapo capacitors Sega used were designed to last for 10 years at most. Depending on your board revision, you might have to replace between 32 to 36 capacitors...

I meant replacing them. Model 1 Mega Drives are 20 years old at the very least. The cheapo capacitors Sega used were designed to last for 10 years at most, so they have gone waay past their life cycle. Depending on your board revision you will have to replace about 32 to 36 capacitors...
