wow thats great, seems tough enough to a complete novice, but its a start i have 3 megadrives so i should begin ripping one of them open as soon as those exams finish.

My Sega CD occasionally makes this clicking noise while changing tracks. It doesn't seem to affect anything, but seeing as I'm pretty confident it shouldn't be making it I figured I'd ask if anyone would know why this is?
the clicking is normal, i've seen, on Model 2 Sega CDs.. it's just the lens focusing coil kicking in, after the laser has been idle for a bit..

Im a new member but I managed to get the best way to setup your systems to get the best video and stereo sound!!!
I was looking on the forum and I thought about what you can do, so here it is:

Ive tested the setup on my own tv and it works,
In order ro achive this setup would will need some stackable phono leads, a mixing cable double ended 3.5mm jacks, and a modified Composite video lead, with some small 2.5mm stranded wire (rapid electronics), a croc-clip and black electrical tape to hold the composite and ground wires in place.
The setup im using at the moment as i dont have a mixing cable is this:

Both will work, although on the mixing cable setup before, the sound will be REALY LOUD whereas you will have more control over the sound with the alternative setup therefore the sound will be low.

I have another query, can you run a Sega CD game on a Mega CD without moding the system or using a boot cartidge, can you (for example) copy the ISO onto the computer using Nero or other programs and alter it to run on the Mega CD, as I have 1 Sega CD game i wish to transfer?
you have a glitch in your diagram.. do NOT take Genesis sound and THEN tie that to the 32X audio output.. That's going to cause an overload, and I highly recommend NOT doing that.
Other than that one bit, how you hooked it up is how the SEGA manual shows it, which still has sucky Composite video..
RGB or Component is still the best route, as your bypassing any PAL/NTSC encoding all together, and keeping the colors pretty much seperate...

the internal switch is broken, this tells the system that the door is "CLOSED", just like another switch tells the system is "OPEN"...

problem 1: resolved
edit: problem 2: i fixed genesis but when i play games i have 2 large dark lines going across the tv (although it could be the tv itself) ill take a picture later to show everyone
also i bought a megadrive for the same price (came with one cord which i had no use for [probably did not go with master system], power adapter (broken but i bought a new one for 50 cents, around 7 games [including shinobi], no controllers got an rf cord from my friend)
i share the rf cord/power adapter with my genesis1 and master system
anyway none of that stuff about master system is important
problem 3: what is important is that when i turn the master system on (with a game in it) i just get a blank screen)
EDIT: master system is fucked i tried to clean it with a dry cloth and nothing happened
You can't save games on the Genesis like you can when playing them on a PC with an emulator. Some games, like Sonic 3, use a special type of memory that they use to save games, though.Quote:

I just bought a segaCD from my local thrift store. I hooked it up to my model 2 genesis, and found that there are some audio outs on the back of the segaCD plus a mixing port. Your AV cable coming from the Genesis should carry both the Genesis sound and the Sega CD sound. You don't say if it is a model 1 or 2 Sega CD. If it is a model 1, the RCA jacks (audio out jacks) will only output CD sound and you won't hear any sound made by the Genesis. If it is a model 2 CD then the RCA jacks will carry out the mixed sound. Ignore the mixing jack, it's only for the model 1 Genesis, which rules.

I have just recently played a CD32x on a big television with my CDx. The screen had a reddish tinge and when I was done I connected it to my normal tv and the graphics are all shaded blue This includes the text and the sprites, but when I tested my 32x on my Genesis models 1 and 2 it displayed properly. The CDx also plays the Genesis and CD games fine. the only problem is when I try to play my 32x on my CDx. Does anyone know if something needs to be corrected or replaced? I appreciate your help.
From what I understand, some CDx models have piss poor RGB output, and the 32X only uses the RGB signals from the Genesis, for Genesis graphics...
I don't know how to explain this perfectly...but I'll attempt it.
The picture on my Genesis model 2 is pretty bad when running genesis games, or the SegaCD BIOS intro. There are a bunch of horizontal...interference lines going down the screen. It's extremely obvious on any blacks in the picture. However, when running SegaCD GAMES, there doesn't seem to be any interference at all. In fact, I was playing Snatcher, and the blacks are perfect; there are no vertical lines at all. I just bought a brand new stereo AV cable hoping it would fix the problem (I had a rigged mono cable before), but the problem is still there. Any explanations?
Do you have a 32X attached?
How about an HDTV? (or EDTV?) I ask the second question, because in all my testing, interfearence seems worse with an HD or EDTV..

the characters in Comix Zone to have multiple colors shadows in their shadows as opposed to solid dark?

No 32x, but it was attached to an HDTV. I connected it to a regular TV, and actually found that the picture was a lot more crisp (huh.), but the interference was still there. It was less noticeable, however.Quote:

I'm buying a Genesis next week, and I just wanted to know if I should go for a Model 1, or a Model 2? Are there any differences in the sound/graphics quality between them? I have stereo speakers so the fact that the Model 1 can only do mono into the TV is not an issue for me. I'm not even mentioning the Model 3 as I understand its best to avoid that like the plague.
Model 1 is best. It has better sound quality, a headphone jack with volume meter and no license screen if you get an early version.
Is there any way to tell an early Model 1 that doesn't have the license screen from the later version that does?
The ones that don't always have "High Definition Graphics" written behind the cartridge slot. However some Genesis's WITH the license screen also have that. I have found that all Genesis that have High Definition have the good audio, however. There are some later model 1s that have crap audio. The best test would just be to take a cartridge, insert it an turn the system on.

Is it possible to hook a sega CD up to a model one genesis. You know the one that looks like this. I hope its without those metal prongs though. I hate installing stuff with those.

it's all too simple...
remove cover off Genesis side, take off red "DO NOT REMOVE" thing, and slide into Sega CD.. plug in power supply for Sega CD into outlet.. connect AV cable to Genesis, along with the Genesis powersupply too..
done..
