I don't get how the 2DS can possibly be aimed at kids either. The form factor looks ill-suited to children's hands, and they got rid of the clamshell aspect meaning kids are going to bang up those screens. Wasn't the clamshell introduced in the first place, on the GBA SP, with kids in mind? To protect the screen from damage? And then the Game Boy Micro was aimed more at adults (as a fashion accessory), which is why they kept selling the SP.
Not to mention, the introduction of a non-3D model of the 3DS raises the question of why the 3DS exists in the first place. When it launched, Nintendo was implying that the 3D was the whole point of the system. Now it's just a feature that lifts right out? Nintendo is coming across like they can't make up their minds.
A cost-reduced model is a good thing, but they're not making sense, and this design looks hella awkward.
