Robocop, where are you?
I live here and those pics do not show the REAL Detroit, MI.
Its actually WORSE than that.
If you throw in the political corruption (Mayor Kwami Kilpatrick's family are drug dealers and real estate swindlers...he also is responsible for at least one person's death), corrupt city council (takes bribes and rapes tax payers) and the rampant dope culture with dwindling schools and population...its actually worse than that Soviet portrayal.
I may be a robot, but I can't do it all, human. :P
That's about how I imagined Detroit.
But you say it's worse....ouch.
In Soviet Russia, n00b pwnz j00!!
Haha, that's just as bad as my town. Not as bad as Detroit... but if those pictures are not as bad as the real detroit, then that's my city right there. :(
Maybe in Russia a crumbling, decrepit city looks pretty appealing.
I saw a program about some post-USSR airbases and the places had broken, crumbling concrete everywhere. And the guy being interviewed said that the airbase looked like that even in the hey-day of the cold war.
By coincidence, read this...it was in today's headlines:

You guys need to attract the military, if they are so concerned, they should attract the military and prices will go way up.
Where I live, one of those houses pictured on the russian site would go for $100,000. The city I live in, it's economy is ruled by the military base. We have people communiting two hours away even, because there's no housing and what does exist is expensive as fuck.
No really. The military base near by has way too many soliders and I think they have *enough* housing, but the soliders decide not to live in the housing which is pretty decent quality - better than one could rent in my city, and isn't on base even. It's like five to six miles away, give or take a few miles.
So as a result of the GI's not living at the housing, the landlords love to rape the GI's by charging rent out the wazoo, like $1200 a month for an appartment. And the life-long residents, who on average don't make jack are fucked. Assesments are going up, and some of the people who don't make jack who bought a house ages ago are really getting burned - they can't afford the higher taxes!
That, and people shit their pants when this call center (some of the clients are DELL, Sirrus, XM Radio, et al) opened a few years back... they pay $7.45 an hour, and it has gone up since it opened... that's not much more than New York State minimum wage. When they talk about a new store/resturant coming to town in the news, people get excited because it brings jobs... and everyone is too stupid to realize they only pay minimum wage, or a little bit more. Either way, it isn't enough to live on, even if you went dumpster diving.
In Soviet Russia, taxes pay YOU!!

I was visiting this place in the mid 90's and at the base there was a lot of German military trainees/civilian advisers/whatever and when they would go look for houses off base the landlords/owners would jack up the price of houses. The reason it was revealed that they were jacking up the prices was because a German family posed as an American family and they ended up getting a house/apartment for much less.
You live there? Impressive. I live about an hour out of Detroit, and frankly, I refuse to set foot in it.Quote:
