^ Agree.
Though I find cool that they are porting the game to HD versions and especially Dreamcast, the game clearly belongs to the Genesis and it will surely loose some of its awesomeness in the conversion. It will no longer be a 64 MEGA POWER game, for instance. Get the Genesis version w/ or w/out CD.

the CD is bugged, i'm just gonna get the cheaper cart only version (still has box and stuff). if it pops up o nsteam one day, i might get that version too.
-
I dont care very much about the CD my self, I like the whole thing on just one media (plus it seems cart music is also very good)
-
right then, so i got a copy of the last run (that i know of?) sometime last year, finally got around to it on my model 1 (non-TMSS) with 32X hooked up, and...nothin'. any ideas?
if this is another after-market game that doesn't play well with non-TMSS units i'm gonna have to start looking for a way to play it on my mega everdrive, if possible.
-
32X games work fine with your setup, yes?
TulioAdriano said in the Paprium thread there was a slight error with the production Pier Solar PCB, one extra power filter capacitor which causes boot issues with non-TMSS Genesis Model 1 systems. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthr...l=1#post778724
You could PM him about the specific capacitor that has to be removed.

Thank you for always helping us out again Guntz, I can't leave you feedback because of forum error "spread reputation" which is what I'm doing with other members, however I hope you take this post as appreciated feedback brother.

Interesting... I guess I've never tried to run my first edition release of Pier Solar on my HDG va2. But I guess I have to now to see what happens. But I would honestly hate to crack the cart open and clip/bridge anything on it. Those first release copies of the game fetch a small mint these days!
But if it doesn't affect the game on any other models then...why was the extra cap added in the first place?

NM I just read the thread link above. It only affected the latest release of the game. So I should be good. But I did think the first release had a hardware issue with something? I know that I originally tested the cart on my x'eye (Now MIA from my last move...), but that is also worked on my CDX as I recall. Anyway, glad to know I shouldn't have any issues on my current daily genesis I use.

Yeah I guess his wording was a bit odd. To me, it almost sounded like he meant the very first production Pier Solar PCB was changed at the last minute to thwart piracy. "last cartridge" can mean the last development version before retail production. Perhaps he meant "last cartridge" as in the most recent retail revision.
I bought my Reprint Edition back in January 2011, this was the very first print run, it seems to work fine with my Model 1 VA2 + 32X. It works on all sorts of clone hardware too.

yeah, last I tried 32x games worked just fine - ironically, I had to switch 32xs with a buddy because his played nicer with my Mega Everdrive than mine did.
in lieu of finding a working ROM (I honestly.don't know if my ED supports that file size anyway) I'll PM this guy & hope for an easy fix, thanks Guntz!
-
All retail versions of Pier Solar use a custom mapper and copy protection measures. Even if you found a properly dumped Pier Solar ROM, good luck getting Krikzz to update the Mega Everdrive to support the required mapper.

On a slightly different train of thought, I'm watching my fiance' play Stardew Valley right now, and I'm thinking that Pier Solar could be reworked into this type of game.
The engine could be reworked, and Hoston is already a Botanist. The Genesis has no Harvest Moon type of games. Seems like a match made in heaven.
-
That Stardew Valley cover with the chicken and the farm sure harks back to Pier Solar.

hey Guntz - Tulio was most helpful: all i had to do was reset! prolly not great for the battery, but i'll take it (may still ask later about how to remove that one capacitor). thanks to you both!

Harvest Moon? Count me in ;)
