1) What kind of connection are you using
2) Have you checked the settings on the Blu Ray player
3) Are you sure the Blu Ray movies are 16:9 and not something else like 1.85:1, 2.39:1, etc.

HDMI out of my HTPC at 1080p, it is a built in SATA Bluray player, or 720/1080 video on my HDD (or streamed from the Internet. Actually, watching Hulu right now it is almost touching the sides and top of the screen, very small black bars around all four corners. I have no idea what aspect my Blu Ray movies are in. I might be mistaken that Total Media Theater has the problem as badly as XBMC has actually. I will have to check some Blu Rays again to see.
Does your TV have an aspect setting called something like Just Scan or Full? With my 40 inch Panasonic Plasma if it's set to Full the image is slightly zoomed in vs Just Scan.
Out of curiosity do you have a modern HD console that can use HDMI? Does the problem persist when you use those?
I use Component on my 360 and DVDs or HD-DVDs had me fiddling with stretch settings there. I haven't thought about it much with my LCD TV because the black borders go right up against the black frame, so I have to actually be looking to notice any boxing. Yes, my set has more than a few settings, Native, Natural, TheaterWide1-3, 4:3 HD. I leave this set on Natural, as that stretches the video to nearly full screen without screwing with the aspect ratio of Native. The TheaterWide settings all stretch or crop the image slightly.
Do you happen to know the native resolution of your TV? I've heard of some that have resolutions that are slightly larger than the standard which might result in the borders you are seeing.
And just to eliminate the possibility, your 360 is set to 1080p and widescreen correct? And if yours is one that can use HDMI have you tried using an HDMI cable on it to see if the problem persists?
My 360 can only use HDMI with a third party adapter and runs at 1080i as a result of the Component cables. All of the specs I can find are that this set, a 403G00U, has a native resolution of 1080p. That doesn't seem to affect anything though, only the ClearFrame 120HZ enhancements make any difference in controller lag. For aspect ratio I haven't noticed any difference between 1080i/p.
That really is odd then. I can't seem to find any info on other owners of your TV having similar issues. Though I am seeing some people mentioning that there was a firmware update related to playing 360 games and netflix, maybe give that a try?
Some people have worked on Gameshark-based hacking in order to provide widescreen support for other 5th console games:

Many PS1 games:

I need to have a further look on it sooner rather than later.
^Whoa, that's wild. I'm very curious about these hacks' compatibility with real hardware (based on comments in the thread, it looks to be good!) and the framerate performance change in widescreen.
You can add the following four games to the Saturn list of Widescreen games:
Pro Yakyuu Greatest Nine '97
Pro Yakyuu Greatest Nine '97 - Make Miracle
Pro Yakyuu Greatest Nine '98
Pro Yakyuu Greatest Nine '98 - Summer Action
Are there no widescreen games on the 3DO or Jaguar?
This thread at 3DO Zone says that three, maybe four, games have a widescreen option:
Devils Course
Masters Augusta
Waialae no Kiseki
Wing Commander III (unconfirmed)
I haven't checked one way or the other. It's possible there are some obscure Japanese titles that do.
I highly doubt anything on the Jaguar supports it, given the total lack of a Japanese presence for that console (since they seem to have taken the early lead on widescreen support), and AtariAge seems to confirm that.
EDIT: Other posts on 3DO Zone claim widescreen support for Myst, Policenauts, and Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. Again, I haven't verified these.
Define “widescreen support.” Myst on 3DO runs in cropped letterbox mode (like every port of Myst), but it’s definitely not anamorphic. Is that support?
You can add the following games to the Saturn list of Widescreen games (all natively anamorphic; no option to change to 4:3):
Golden Axe: The Duel (credit goes to a post on the Sega Saturn Collectors & Gamers Facebook group)
Pretty Fighter X (credit goes to a post on the Sega Saturn Collectors & Gamers Facebook group)
Soukyuugurentai
No, credit goes to Paul_Met and Team Medusa. That facebook group is nothing more than a group of thieves who try to pass off other peoples work as their own. They've been called out on it multiple times.
Secondly most of what that facebook group puts up as "widescreen" aren't actually widescreen. A lot of the patches they've stolen from Paul_Met and Team Medusa increase the screen resolution from 320 wide to 352 wide, which that facebook group thinks means widescreen. However that's not really the case and true widescreen requires a bit more work.
There is another Widescreen 5th Generation game I've come across, (also I came across this thread on another website weirdly when looking up the widescreen mode for Panzer Dragoon Zwei.) Anyway, on the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Street Fighter III 2nd Impact Giant Attack contains a widescreen mode. Game looks absolutely fantastic when played in widescreen compared to regular. It however was ONLY in the arcade ROM, and apparently a completed widescreen mode was made for SFIII New Generation but never implemented. The widescreen mode for 2nd Attack Giant Impact was removed for the Dreamcast port.
Does World Series Baseball '98 have widescreen if Pro Yakyuu Greatest Nine 98 has it?
