I wouldn't necessarily say that. There's a lot of 360 owners who are jumping ship to the PS4 who didn't have a PS3 this generation. Hell I'm one of them. If the PS4 had PS3 compatibility I would have reserved one and got it at launch.
I was talking to a co-worker (PS3 owner) this morning. He is pretty much giving his son an IOU ($$$) because they couldn't find a PS4 to give to him this Christmas.

I will admit I have seen this, there was a post from a guy on Reddit who did this exact thing, I dont remember the specifics of why but he had his Wii-U with him while flying and his flight was delayed so he hooked it up and used the gamepad screen. Free from Club Nintendo, I got Pilotwings and Zelda LTTP. Because I LOVE Pilotwings, I paid the $1.50 to upgrade to the Wii U version. So I have 8 VC games that I paid a total of $4.00. The only one not playable on the Wii U VC is LTTP.
All that, and I only have 5 Wii U games. So it's not like I had to spend a fortune to accumulate enough points (I'm sure the console gave me a lot of points). And I still have over 700 points, so I could buy all 4 current free Club Nintendo games if I wanted to. That's really not a bad deal.
With Club Nintendo you get coins by registering a select few games or hardware, and fill out surveys for them, and you can exchange them for trinkets or old roms. With PS+ You get permanent ownership discounts all across the PSN, or entirely free games which tend to be awesome, locked to an active subscription across PS3, PS4, and PSVita for 30-50 bucks a year.
I wouldn't even compare them. PS+ alone is deterrent for picking up a Wii U. You can be a member and collect free games for 2 of the 3 Playstation hardware platforms you don't own yet. Buying a PS4 in a year or two will still be a no-brainer, even if Wii U is cheaper. Sony and Microsoft are the only ones trying, and hopefully Valve steps in to bleed them.
