Last December, it was a Nintendo product with a pattern of slow game releases, entering a market that was on fire with PS3 and Xbox 360 sales, at a price of $350. "More games are coming" was good enough for the weak console, and Nintendo hasn't lived up to that promise much. It's a year later. They're still saying it.
Adopting next gen consoles at launch isn't a good idea in general, where the comedy comes in is when the consoles are over a year old and still have nothing worth playing.Quote:
It's bad pickup right now because by the time those better games are out both systems will have probably had a price cut. There is nothing out for the PS4 or Xbox One that I want to play right now. I don't care about First Person Shooters on consoles. So that removes a huge chunk of both libraries. I've never been a fan of sports games, so that eliminates another huge chunk of both libraries. So let's look at what remains
PS4:
Knack - Somewhat interesting platformer, but not worth paying $400 to play. I can get better plaformers on my Wii U and older systems.
Resogun - Not a bad shooter, but not worth paying $400 for. I have access to more shmups to satisfy that itch on my 360 alone.
The rest are all cross-gen titles I can get on my 360 or Wii U.
Xbox One:
Crimson Dragon - Looked interesting, but I'm not paying $500 to play it. I would have probably gotten it if it remained on the 360. Though looking at it's reviews it looks like I dodged a bullet on that one. Even major Panzer Dragoon fans were saying it was bad.
Ryse Son of Rome - If I want to play an FMV game I have my Sega CD for that.
Killer Instinct - This game was lame on the SNES and N64, why should I get it when I have access to better fighters on my 360, Wii/Wii U, Saturn, and Dreamcast?
Dead Rising 3 - I was never a big fan of these games last gen, and considering it's a technical mess with a bad framerate and resolution I'm not that excited about running out and paying $500 to play it.
Forza 5 - I'm still happy with Forza 3 to be honest. Considering that 5 has less cars and I'm still not able to use a Logitech Wheel I'm not that thrilled about the game.
Cross gen? Wii U? The Wii U is last gen?! REALLY?! Ok, so why is it $299 and not $199? :lol:Quote:
The rest are all cross-gen and I can get them for my 360 or Wii U.
This is the main reason and arugment for Nintendo getting fucking annihilated by their own hubris. Nobody is getting a gun put to their head to prefer any one platform over another, but there is clearly something wrong with Nintendo if the whole market has grown steadily, yet they have declined constantly within it.Quote:
Sure there's games coming, but I'm not going to pay $400-$500 for a brick that's going to sit there with nothing to play for a good year.
All good reasons to buy a Wii U, later, when they come out and it isn't an overpriced piece of shit with no games to play.Quote:
Watch Dogs I'll probably get for Wii U because I think the game pad will work better. If I really care about graphics I'll get the PC version. After that game there's nothing else coming to PS4 and Xbox One I want until Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV. And those probably wont be arriving until 2015. So why should I buy a PS4 or Xbox One now?
Meanwhile the Wii U has the following coming in 2014 that I want to play:
Mariokart 8
Super Smash Bros Wii U
Bayonetta 2
X
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
So right now, the Wii U has the better library of 2013 and looks to have a better list games for me going into 2014.

I admit the Wii U's sales aren't looking too hot right now. Though it has had a decent surge going on in Japan, and it did get some kind of bump for November, it's not as good as it could be.
222k during November. 4.3m globally to date. Nintendo needs to sell 2 million consoles a month to make their already slashed, low 9m fiscal year forecast. Impossible.
Unless they cut the MSRP, it'll be lucky to hit 6.5m by April. Nobody is rushing to buy consoles after Christmas.Quote:
Though when no one is advertising it for Black Friday you can't be surprised when it doesn't sell as well as it could. Though I have seen a lot of stores stocking up on newer bundles throughout December and really pushing it. So perhaps it can still pull off a decent Holiday Season. We'll just have to wait and see.
Nintendo Wii U is a fucking worthless way of spending $300+ on video games. They need to fire Iwata and Reggie, and hire someone who knows the market to run the show. Either that or stop wasting their own money on shit hardware nobody wants or needs. People don't want Nintendo hardware, they want Nintendo games.
