Maybe I'm a little nuts, or maybe I struck a nostalgia chord last night. Either way, myself and a friend of mine crashed a PS4 midnight launch party last night by walking out of the shop with a Sega Master System in hand! There were lots of smiles and lots of confusion and we caught the whole thing on video. Enjoy!
That was pretty awesome. Those guys standing in line seemed stereotypical of early adopters and mindless consumers though. "My first console, uh (eyes glaze), Sega." What the heck? Between that and wanting a PS4 since it was announced, that just blows my mind.
Hey, that was actually very nice. If I was there, I probably would have joined in the fun, lol. Its great to see so many people embrace the SMS.
Pretty funny. Personally if I was there I'd have been thrilled someone was buying the Sega Master System. Awesome idea. :cool:

I've made a couple recent console purchases in the $500 range, but they are Neo Geo and PC Engine systems. I'm certain that I won't buy an Xbox One or PS4 unless a new Tengai Makyou game is released for either.
I'm also certain that neither new console's library will come close to the enjoyment the Sega Master System library brings me. If I lost all my consoles tomorrow, I'd still pick up and play a SMS before most other systems.
This video made my day. One of those guys had an Atari 5600 when he was a kid. That console is so rare that he's the only person on Earth that owned one.
Tough crowd on that video. Any of us would be rolling after seeing a stunt like that. If you hid the Master System in a big shopping bag, it would be a bigger surprise. I was expecting blaring Sega karaoke. Oh well, maybe next time.
One of the benefits of becoming old and jaded is that you can sit and laugh at the people standing in line buying the latest console at launch.

Im definitely jaded Im not gonna lie. I was very excited when Dreamcast came out for example. Once you reach a certain point in you life, a brand new video game console is way down the list of your priorites. If youre a 21 yr old college student then yeah I can see why you'd wanna stand in line for a PS4 but get back to me in ten years and lets see if youre still gettting excited about whatever newest console is being pushed.

That's true. The only time I ever got a console basically when It launched was the PS3. And I hardly played it for at least a year and a half. I had a couple games I enjoyed. Not enough I sold it.Quote:

I knew it came out on SMS, just never bothered to check it out. Seems like a good conversion to an weaker platform though.

Also, don't the early adopters normally get the brunt of the problems with a system. Did not the XB360 early models have severe overheating problems that got worked out later?
I wouldn't mind a PC Engine myslef, as for the Neo, I have an MVS 1-slot board / Supergun - overall costs came pretty high but its pretty fun, especially for two players. The prices the games are going for these days is daylight robbery though (and we are talking MVS and not the even more absurdly expensive AES). That said there's a few multi carts available for the MVS which kind of lighten the overall cost of gaming.Quote:

Several consoles had phenomenal launch titles. Someone getting a Colecovision, NES, or TG-16 had a plethora of strong titles from which to choose, and even systems like the SNES and Saturn had a couple strong titles with some odds and ends mixed in.
