I suppose I should state I'm willing to spend 50-55 US dollars (shipping included) for a complete Mega Turrican. Trying to buy stuff on eBay at a reasonable price is like trying to win the lottery, particularly if the thing in question is even remotely uncommon or desirable.
This and Mega Bomberman are officially off of my list because of ebayers. I have even given up finding a box and manual for MUSHA, which I have cart only, because of this horrible gaming bubble.
To avoid the crappy cardboard US packaging and also to get it at a reasonable price I ended up getting the European Mega Bomberman.Quote:

You'll get it dude, just be patient. That's how I've gotten some of my games. You just gotta wait for that "one" to pop up and trust me....it will.
I highly recommend getting a US mailbox if you don't live too far from the border, it's well worth it - saves money, stuff isn't stuck in customs for two weeks and it gives you access to all the US online stores.Quote:

One way to beat ebay greed is to search on misspelled auction titles. Try searching on "Mega Turrigan" or "Meka Turrican". I have won auctions that no one else ever saw due to typos.
That happens less and less often now, as eBay will alert sellers to typos during the listing process multiple times for virtually all games.
I've been trying to get a good deal on a CIB Mega Turrican for a while. A lot of sellers don't even want to ship to Canada. It's slightly more expensive, but not ludicrously more on an item the size and weight of a CIB Genesis game. The ones that do want an arm and a leg for the game, and it's just not worth what they want.
Mega Bomberman cib isn't still that pricy.
I have a copy of Mega Turrican, that I have been DYING to get the manual for. The artwork insert and and case are in like new condition. I could have said the same for the game but it was a little hole on top of the label which has been annoying me for some time now.
One I find one with a perfect label, I 'll go and sell this one.
Try some garage sales also. This guy finds some decent stuff for next to nothing in price. He tends to come out on top most of the time when gettin is good.

You have to go out every week to garage sales in order to even out. You don't really get to see that in these videos. Its always hit and miss because a lot of garage sales just has crap. I think my best year was 2 years ago where I got a Nomad for $5.Quote:

The reason there are so many ridiculous asking prices on eBay, is because too many people don't understand the difference between adking prices, sold prices and just as important: unsold prices. Games failing to sell at any given price are as much an indicator of the "going rate" as sold prices. Even when a games occasionally sells for s ridiculous high price, it's more telling if it failed to sell at that price dozens of times before and after.
On eBay Mega Bomberman sells for:
Loose: $15 shipped
With box: $30
Complete: $40
Those prices shipped to Canada, usually from the U.S.
None of those listings shipped to Canada for $55 or less. $55 is the absolute maximum I'm willing to pay. Ideally, I would like to pay $50 shipped. I know how to search ebay, sellers are just getting worse and worse. A few years ago I got a CIB MUSHA off of ebay for around $80. I got a CIB Wily Wars for about $120. I dare anyone to try to do that on eBay today. I really wouldn't even consider $50 shipped on Mega Turrican a good deal. It's simply a reasonable price. It's what I could get fairly easily if I lived in the U.S.
eBay used to be ok for those who had patience, now, like I said before, looking for a good deal is like trying to win the lottery. Good deals happen, but on rare or desirable items they are few and very far between. For buyers outside the U.S., difficulty finding good deals is exacerbated 3 fold, because so many sellers either refuse to ship to Canada or mistakenly think it costs three times as much. A good example on eBay are sellers who offer free shipping within the U.S., but charge $12 to ship a Genesis game to Canada. I'll try to convince them to only charge the difference in shipping they'd expect to see shipping to Canada. It's not like it's actually free to ship within the U.S. on their end, they're simply adding it to their asking price. You know how often my attempts at requesting a difference to be paid on such items work? Almost never.
I go to second hand sales and garage sales quite often, and I sell doubles and games I'm not interested in online. I sell to the U.S., and I know shipping from Canada to the U.S. is far worse than shipping from the U.S. to Canada, and I manage to keep my shipping costs low just fine. I know first hand a lot of eBay sellers are full of crap when they're listing international shipping fees.
Thunderblaze16 gave me a good tip in a PM on a cheap boxed copy, which would hold me over while I search for a manual. So, I may end up getting the game soonish after all. Fingers crossed.
Mega Turrican is currently at the top of my wanted list. I almost bought it CIB for $50 last year, and I'm really regretting not buying it. The eBay prices are just stupid right now.
Online selling is full of lame sellers now, but eBay is still the best place to find deals overall. Although shipping to Canada has gone up, I still get the best deals on games from sellers who won't ship international, but agree to sell to me after I ask. It really depends on what you're looking for though. Premium condition items which are extra complete demand a premium. Often a slightly incomplete or not so mint item sells for a fraction of a premium copy.Quote:

eBay has the best selection, but it is nowhere close to the best for deals. You can get better deals on craigslist and kijiji. I too have gotten many of my eBay-purchased games from sellers who originally wouldn't ship to Canada at all. The percentage in this case doesn't matter. $55 is the high end of what the game is worth. I wouldn't spend $56 for the game. You may view it as being stubborn, but I say principle is important. People who are always willing to pay incrementally more every bloody week for a game are the reason Chrono Trigger goes for $200 complete in good condition when the game is roughly as rare as dirt.
The only reason I'm willing to spend what I consider full price for Mega Turrican is because I really, really want the game and I've been actively trying to get one for months. I typically never pay top price; I hunt for deals. If I paid in the high end, my current game collection would break the bank.
I am pretty stubborn like you. I will put a value on a game usually a "bargain" price and hold out. It is just way harder in Canada to make it happen. I had to wait 5 months to get a good deal on Demolition Man. If I lived in the States I could have had it about 12x's over in those 4 months.Quote:

That "I want it now no matter the cost" mentality is what helps drive overall game prices nowhere but up. Many sellers look at sold auctions on ebay as the Bible for game prices. Seeing knee-jerk gotta-have-it now purchase prices, other sellers start their prices near those and assume that they are fair market value. In truth, if you looked at a graph of completed auctions over the course of even a couple months, you might see that those are merely spikes in the overall pricing trend. Unfortunately, most ebay/amazon sellers don't have access to charts or graphs of pricing on a given game, so go about pricing their items based on one or two spikes.
I understand what you're saying and I agree, however, it's gonna happen anyway regardless if you or I wait 6 years to buy a game. I'd rather just purchase it and enjoy it instead of "waiting" until a deal falls into my lap. My time is worth more to me than the money because the time spent waiting for a deal can never be recovered. I'd rather be playing the game as opposed to waiting and getting frustrated because I can never find it at a reasonable price. Besides...a reasonable price is only in the eye of the beholder.Quote:

Everyone likes a great deal when it falls on their laps, but I agree with segafan1989. When it comes to something that I REALLY want, throwing some extra money (within reason) at it to have it sooner rather than later is worth it to me to not have to continue looking for it for a few dollars less. If I must have it, I dont want to let something like $5 - $10 stand in the way between me having it now or having it at some unspecified time in the future. Get Universal Soldier to tide you over? I prefer the Turrican II gameplay and level design even if the game isn't as pretty.
