Does anyone know how common the Genesis/Mega Drive version of the Capcom Power Stick Fighter is? I got one for $20 a few years ago at a local game store, and I've never seen another one. The SNES version appears to be quite common, but I can barely find anything on the Genesis version. It's actually a pretty good stick. Buttons are OK, but the stick itself is fantastic.
I bought one of those when they first hit the stores.
I was sorely disappointing at how empty, light, and cheap the build quality felt. The buttons were slow, and I returned the thing.
Went with the (ASCii) Fighter Stick SG6 instead.
I will admit it is quite light. It still feels pretty sturdy, however. I'm considering putting some lead weight in it so that it moves around less.
LOL, the sticks on the CPSF's are either Sanwa JLW's or Seimitsu LS-40's, and the buttons have Omron micro switches, can't get better than that, yours must have been heavily beaten when you got it..Quote:

Apparently the Japanese version has different internals than what was produced for North America. Not unlike the situation with the official Sega joysticks.
Nope, that thread on shmups is old, both the japanese and US versions of the CPSF came with Sanwa JLW's on the earlier models, then the later model came with the "unbranded stick" which is actually a Seimitsu LS-40, both types of sticks are of very good quality.

It took me many years to track down an optical ASCii joysticks for PS2. (and I still haven't!)
At first I purchased the ASCii SNK vs Capcom CHAOS Fighting Stick considering it uses the same mold and has identical appearance to the Dreamcast stick. I was so bummed when I received it and discovered the clicky stick.
After a handful of years of searching I finally purchase an ASCii Stick Zero 3 as I had confirmed that is the only Playstation optical stick with vibration.
I thought my holy grail had been found. Turns out the Zero3 joystick is significantly longer than the Dreamast FT version (feels cumbersome in comparison).
And worst of all the Zero3 does not function with ~98% of the PS2 games I own. It doesn't work with Rez (or any Sega game) which was the primary reason I searched it out for all those years = optical stick, built in vibration, along with the trancevibrator, and the "Intoxication Pack" vibrating headphones ~ that was my gaming dream come true! lol, and the PS1 stick isn't PS2 compatible!
Anyhow enough of that tangent.
What should we tell superandroitron? ...that the Capcom PSF for Genesis is kinda uncommon? I remember seeing them on clearance at EB and Babbages stores for some time after their release. The stores around me (though I don't recall them at Toys R Us) had the Genesis Capcom stick stocked for a few years at least.
Edit: should clarify - the ASCii sticks with vibration have the rumble motor built into the shell, not the joystick. If I'm not mistaken, the Hori Fighting Stick 2 is a clicky joystick with Dual Shock vibration attached to the joystick assembly itself.
They are not common, but they also shouldn't be expensive. In my long trek through collecting videogames, the number one pattern I've seen with hardware sales is that peripherals become nearly worthless over time. I've gotten my fair share of PS1, N64, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast and PS2 peripherals for under $15 that once were between $100-250 in their heyday. I'm talking about Arcade sticks, Light Guns, Racing wheels with foot controls, etc. And, btw, half of this stuff I've gotten has been brand new in the box and sealed. This stuff becomes nearly worthless as the next generation of consoles kicks in. But, hey, the more power to us.
