Megaman CD

A public build is out. Has some new features. It's also iso/cue/wave format, so replace the wave tracks with whatever you want - if you like. Burn it with whatever app (use disc-at-once mode). Sorry, Mac OS has no burning software for this format; you'll need Windows or Linux.

Again, looking for some testers. It has an easy mode now, in the options. Should make the game a little more enjoyable. You can soft/pad reset the game as well (select+run). And you can set the PSG sound FX levels (also in the options).

Note: A few apps won't burn the data track because it's not a multiple of 2048bytes. If you have this rare problem, I'll upload a separate replacement data track (probably will anyway).

I can't help you with that, but i'll bump this one to see if you can get more people here to try this one out.

I'll download it sometime soon - the beta build was pretty solid IIRC, so im excited to see how this turned out.

That brings up a question that I've had for a while: how easy/difficult is it to port a game from the PC Engine CD to the Sega CD and vice versa?

In this case it would be very difficult or at least a lot of work, since Tom's NES to PCE ports are running NES code straight off the roms that can't be run on the 68k the same way. The SMB port for Genesis required fully disassembled code to work from.

It's possible, with a cross assembler. I doubt the cross assembler is gonna generate optimal code, but since the NES only ran at 1.79mhz - it'll probably be fine. One could do it using FCEUX; use the Code/Data logger (CDL) along with the tracer (log only new encounter opcodes/addresses). Of course, you'd still have to write all the back end mapper and PPU emulation. APU stuff can just be easily hooked for alt sound code.

This is basically what that one guy did with SMB for the Genesis. But didn't need to use FCEUX because someone already made a source code project. That, and his PPU emulation code would have to updated as SMB is pretty simple - it get's more complicated when games use more features and chr-ram.

That would be a lot of work. I'm willing to bet, that Rondo is more of a modular type setup - given that it's a later gen game. If you separate/identify the level and enemy assets of the game, then you could just simply replicate the original game logic and run it using those assets (which are probably script-ish like in nature).

No, it was a joke. I was under the impression that Duos have no tolerance for CD-Rs and they tend to ruin the laser quickly.

I burned the game and tried it out. Works great!

I love the music. I completed Cut man and Elec man levels and the game was working great. I will try and complete the game this weekend.

Thanks for trying this out. Question; which CD build did you download? The single zip file or the two part (music pack and cue/iso pack)?

Sorry to disappoint. Some one needs to make a core Megaman game logic engine from scratch, then import Megaman levels and enemies into the game. The Wily Wars for Genesis is cool, but the gameplay is too broken/geeked to be taken seriously. Someone needs to do a MM1-6 compilation for Genesis/SegaCD.

I used the SCD ver 1.01a: Cue/ISO Pack and the SCD ver 1.01a: Music Pack together. Just placed the iso and cue file plus all the music files in a folder and burned the disc with free ImgBurn software at 1x speed.

It worked great.

I played some more last night again on easy and completed half the game. Are you going to do mega man 2?
