Taken from the newest issue of Weekly Famitsu, Yosuke Okunari of Research and Development was asked about some of the more recent remakes such as the ones in the "Sega Ages" line. He goes onto say that Sega is always willing to hear from consumers and what they'd like to see given a fresh coat of paint

We got a Streets of Rage Remake, and it was awesome.
No fucks given it wasn't developed by Sega

Panzer Dragoon collection would be cool, I bet Sega would have to do some serious digging to find all the assets for Saga though.

I don't want remakes and rereleases trotted out all the damn time. Make a new Columns, with some sort of change to the mechanics. Don't just give the original Columns smoother graphics and new age music. Make a new Jet Set Radio game, not just the first one in a higher resolution.
Source codes, original assets etc. get lost all the time, even if they found the original models do they still have whatever platform they used for development to open them with? Gonna take a guess and assume they can't just open them in 3DS Max.Quote:

They should have an entire group dedicated to updating their old games to sell on multiple platforms. They can use the interest in those games (provided they are well done) to gauge which franchises are ripe for a whole new game... and even have feedback right there about what current audiences like/dislike about the classics.
It should cost a fraction of the price of a new full release game to update the vast majority of games well. Especially if it's done by a group that is geared specifically towards that.
Games like PDS are more difficult due to the complexity of the system it was on, the game itself, and the loss of original assets. I'd start with the first two games (much simpler games overall) and see what kind of interest they raise as shooters and in regards to the series itself.
I'd love to see Sega like its old self with multiple groups doing all sorts of cool stuff from quick and dirty game collections (cheap, lots of them packed in), to full re-releases (more expensive, lots of work done to bring them to a more modern presentation), and of course the full game releases.
What Sega should try is making a new console, but with like.. PS2 specs so it would be super cheap to produce.Quote:

On PC we have this platform called Steam, it is pretty cool and plays lots of games. There are also mobile devices and tablets, too. And on consoles we have digital services and the concept of releasing budget and collection games on disc.Quote:

Skies of Arcadia HD would be nice. Jet Set Radio Future HD, to go along with JSR "HD" on PS3/360. Honestly, though, if either of those were put on WiiU, with the Upad used to create tags, I'd be much more likely to go out and get Nintendo's failing console. They could really use the sale.
One thing that confuses me about Sega is that they can be the 800 lb. gorilla in the mobile market, but they're not throwing their muscle around like they should. Where's a mobile specific version of Columns, Sega? Or, for that matter, Sega Swirl? Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine? Friggin' throw a puzzle game on mobile already. No reason to let the folks behind Candy Crush make so much easy money.
Know what would be great on mobile? Chao Garden. It would make money, too.

It would be an easy platform to release their exclusive remakes on, a nostalgia console fueled by classic remakes and maybe
the occasional classic looking indie game.
but you're right, Sega prefers to survive with the occasional Sonic whoring.
That is the "wii" route. And it's incredibly risky. Even Nintendo (who uses a lot more if it's IP stock than Sega) really didn't seem to know what to do with it towards the end, and it's obvious they didn't really understand it at all when the wii u came about.
And it would also be no better than something like the Ouya... which obviously didn't do very well. And I don't see them making as open and available as that system is. It would be something the hobbyists types would likely enjoy if it was done well enough, but it wouldn't see much widespread success.
All they need to do is just... use their IP... they have SO many games in the past that work great on different platforms. Things like Chu Chu rocket, Columns, Sega swirl... those all would work great on mobile devices as well as more full featured systems.
"Main" franchise games like SoR, Golden Axe, and of course Sonic would work great on the "big" platforms.
Phantasy Star would be a series I STILL want them to break in half. PSO versions can go to the big online systems, or even PC based only. The "classic" PS games can go anywhere.
They just have a crapload of IP... and most of it has been sitting in a closet for ages other than being slapped "as is" into a game collection now and then.
Sega has enough content to release stuff across every available platform for years if they wanted to. But instead we get a roided out knuckles, a wanna be Fred from Scooby Doo Sonic, and a slutty Amy.

I'd be happy with a Sega arcade collection. The Genesis collection was awesome, now let's go to the arcades. Where is Thunder Blade, Turbo Outrun, Power Drift, Enduro Racer, Super Monaco GP, Rail Chase, Lost World: Jurassic Park, Spiderman the Arcade, Outrunners, Scramble Spirits, Star Wars Arcade (and Trilogy), Crack Down, Thunder Force AC, and Wing War?
A huge Sega arcade compilation would be most welcome, I agree. Some great ones made it onto the Ultimate Genesis Collection but they could do much more.

I don't see why they care about having the source code to Panzer Dragoon Saga. People who never worked at Sega were able to emulate PD Saga without knowing the source code. Seems to me, that they don't even have to remake PD Saga, since they could simply emulate the original with optional graphics filters. Plenty of companies, including Sega are already doing that with many of their classic titles.
The salt towards modern Sega here is hilarious considering their remake/emulation output tbh.

People are asking for Sega to either
A - Remake a huge RPG from the ground up as if it's just that cheap and easy
B - Find all the old assets and source code from a game that's nearly 20 years old, because game development obviously hasn't budged an inch since then, providing the storage used to store these assets is easily located and not corrupted. Hard drives and CDs certainly don't last forever.
Yeah it's all about money, and of course it is, these suits have families to feed, and they can't feed them on the sales of a game that only about 200 people want that will cost loads to make.
Personally, I've had a real copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for a good while now. I just think the price is ridiculous (justified or not), and it would be nice to have more people given a legal and cheaper route, so they could have the chance to play it too. It's quite possible that Sega will screw up the emulation, if they ever did attempt it, but it's the least expensive route for them, so I figured it would be the most likely.
It would be nice to play Panzer Dragoon Saga but realistically looking at it and there is no way Sega will pump money into getting this to a modern audience.
Saturn emulator is the only way to go, and Saturn emulation isn't nowhere near 100% yet.
