It seems it's a more predominantly male activity, and girl gamers are generally looked at as nutjobs. What do you think about 'girls into games' generally? I noticed most girl gamers tend to be casual types who play the popular or iphone stuff, usually really easy. Do girls really think of us men who love games to be that stupid?
Where have you been? Tons of girls play video games.
Although one reason why gaming is more male-dominated is due to a lack of actual strong female leads/role models in games.
I used to play Minecraft online and there was a lot of female playing this game.

Because the point Click adventures died, my wife loves them, and now they are not as many of them she doesnt play as much. We did just play and beat Kings Quest 7, and starting Grimm Fandango.
A better question would be why do they hate The Three Stooges?
Remember folks this post was largely meant in jest and like alot of my posts is smattered with dry, tongue-in-cheek humor.

Once you go to bigger cities, it's a little different. Sometimes there are girls that play games just so guys will like them. Some play games (or claim to) because that makes them more cool in their hipster circles. Some play only popular games, because that's the "in fad" for the time.
The smallest minority are girls that legitimately enjoy a wide variety of video games.
When my older daughter has friends over, they play games on the Wii. Plus, she and my wife often play games on their Kindles in the evening. Perhaps there aren't as many girls playing the so-called manly FPS titles, but overall, women definitely occupy a big chunk of the market. There are major companies out there creating entire genres of games aimed specifically at women.
Also, midnightrider, that's crazy talk. No one hates the Stooges. You're just talking crazy.
I sometimes come across girls who really like games and with one exception, they're usually less than attractive. I'm not generalizing or trying to be a jerk, it's just my observation. It's the same thing with female Doctor Who fans, too.

Most of the girl 'gamers' I know in real life only play Angry Birds, WoW, and/or CoD.
They dont like heavy metal either and generally have horrible taste in music. Just sayin'.
I think there are more guy gamers than girl gamers, but there are a lot of them out there now, typically in certain genres. MMORPGs tend to attract both sexes. A lot of women will play tablet/phone games (as do a lot of people who previously probably didn't play games at all). Minecraft is another one. I think as a result of this, more girl gamers are getting into the previously male-dominated games (like the CoDs, etc.).
I do think that the classic gaming community is very male dominated though. The stigma for girls playing video games was from previous eras and doesn't seem to apply as much to girls in their teens and 20s. Women my age typically do not play games (not that I've noticed, anyway).
The moment you say "yeah, and the ones who do like them are ugly," you've forfeited having a reasonable discussion. I mean, what the hell does that have to do with anything?

Most women I know are gamers. I know a few of them who are vocal, at least to me, about the neckbeards who play games and their ignorant lack of social skills. Most male gamers are juvenile idiots. They change their attitudes when they find out they're playing with a woman.
The worst from what I hear isn't just the normal dickhead attitude, but the creepy white knights. White knights who can't get laid, the kind of guy who tries way too hard.

Women play games, they always have, it's mainstream. They just don't give a shit to be extremely vocal about it when most of the fat, greasy, genuinely strange losers that retreat from real life so easily think they can just spout off sexist remarks and attribute it to some sort of gaming culture. The market is also driven by appealing to these childish people, so there's an even stronger belief that women just aren't around.

Because even if a girl does like video games if they let a gamer guy know that's all they will ever do. When they finsh doing the deed for example the guy would roll over and turn on the Xbox. I watched this happen with one of my friends and I also worked with his girlfriend and got to hear all about it.

There are lots of female gamers out there, so I wouldn't say they hate video games. But I know far more guys that OBSESS about video games! I know lots of girls that vividly play MMOs and RPGs, games like Sim City or platformers like Rayman, love Star Wars or Star Trek or do cosplay about their favorite characters, just for the fun of it - however, I hardly know any that engage in fights over what series or what platform is supposed to be superior. They simply enjoy that hobby more quietly in my experience. They aren't as vocal about it as some bratty, male 15-year-old, who calls you a fag because he just got headshot in CoD and makes entire Blogs about how "The XBone SUXX!!!!" or the like.
Because of that, it seems to me that the game publishers don't take notice of them and would rather tailor their games and target their marketing at the 15-25 year-old male demographic, ignoring the fact that there are both older and female gamers who would rather be treated respectfully rather than with in-your-face juvenile marketing attempts, like that goddamn Hitman-Absolution "Killer Nuns" campaign a while back (no, I will never let Sqenix live that down!). So no, I don't think "girls" "hate" video games. Many of them love them. But the way these games are marketed, most of them don't feel like they belong there. The industry makes them believe that games are just not "for them".
I've met lots of girl gamers (and i'm not talking casual shit here). They're pretty common these days. I also agree with KD, there's nothing more annoying than "white knights". Pretty sure women hate them more than I do.

Perhaps if arcades were as valid as they were in the '70's-'90's, there might be more playing there. Funny how in the earliest days of video gaming, it was seemingly more gender neutral.
I think there are a few sides to white knights. They're all asshole without realizing it, but still. I've seen some, in a community that knows it has female members, speak on behalf of females. It's like, they're right there! If they need to say something, let them say it, and stfu.

Almost every woman I know who plays games doesn't ignore the assholes because they are unable to say anything, they just feel it's not worth the effort to egg them on. The only time I've seen them "need" someone to step in is in games with guild/clan/whatever setups where the person is being such a problem they need to have someone with authority either tell them to shape up or be removed from the group.
But yes, I think the "If I'm nice to her maybe I'll get her to like me" crowd of super desperate types are just as bad as the raging misogynist hate machines, just in their own different and "special" ways.
