The way Sonic looked in the 1st two games and Sonic CD is way better than in Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Especially after you get hit or are sliding down water. Sonic 3 just looks shitty to me. Is there a rom for Everdrive where I can play sonic 3 and knuckles with the original sprites?

No idea. I think originally someone was working on a customizable version of Sonic 3K with stuff like this and eventually the idea made its way into this dude Tiddles's [awesome] hack since people kept asking for different options. You can also download a zip file with all the patches in it from this page so you don't have to keep going to that customizer to create a new rom.Quote:

Yep. It plays fine on Everdrive. Make sure your SD card isn't set to write protected.

I really don't mind the Sonic 3 sprites, I'm using Sonic and Sonic 2 sprites, it doesn't look right
Yeah the art design for S3 was less flat imo, so the flatter S1/2 sprites will seem a bit out of place.Quote:

The Sonic 1 sprites still have the best look for general use to me. The Sonic 3 sprites look great in the right context, but they really clash with the art in the previous games. That's why I wish there was a Sonic 1 sprite option for Sonic Classic Heroes.
Actually, Classic Heroes with options comparable to Sonic 3C would be mind-blowing.
Can a Sonic 3 cart be a donor for Sonic 3C?
I doubt it: the original Sonic 3 is 2MB, whereas we run to 3.75MB with all the S&K and extra stuff.
I don't see any reason why a 4MB EPROM wouldn't fit on a Sonic 3 PCB. 2MB ROMs and 4MB ROMs are both 42-pin.
I don't know much about putting the hardware together, but in that case, yeah, that would be OK for the base ROM. We do also use more SRAM than regular S3&K though, for the options settings - if that's also easily fixable (or if S3 happens to have loads going spare anyway) then you're onto a winner. I think we declare 4KB instead of 1KB, but we only use about 1KB plus "a bit" at the moment.

The sprites of Sonic and Sonic 2 don't go well with the S3 layout, Good concept to see what it would look like, But Sega changed Sonic for Sonic 3 for a reason
no wonder Sonic 2 is still the best Sonic of all time...
I don't mind the sprite changes myself. But, then again, I'm one of those retro gamers who also doesn't mind any look change Sonic has had throughout the years. I just go with the flow I suppose. But, tbh, the Sonic 3 and S&K Sonic sprite is pretty awesome.

Nah, Sonic 3 sprites are awesome. But I don't actually like the game itself that much. Sonic & Knuckles is a much much better part of the S3&K and the best 2D Sonic game overall IMO while Sonic 3 is the worst one.

However - space edit from the future, in case anyone comes back to this thread: I've read since that since Sonic 3 is only a 2MB ROM, it has no bankswitching circuitry to swap ROM/SRAM at the 2MB boundary. This would cause you problems. From brief investigation, it's been suggested elsewhere that you want a donor cart of more than 2MB that maps SRAM at the 2MB mark (and probably stores its ROM on two separate chips - you would need to map it the same way).
