Comic books

Any fans of comic books in here? Im a giant fan of the 1970s Conan books by Marvel comics. Great pieces of writing, lots of content , great artwork to boot. The lands come alive off the pages and into your den , backyard, or wherever you may happen to be reading the magazine. I got sick of hunting for the 250+ issues that ran from 1970-1992 , so i paid 900$ on ebay for issues 1-275 plus a buncha extra books Marvel did on Conan alongside the color monthly issues, they were larger comic books meant for 'adults' and were printed always in black and white.

My next conquest is to get all of those , and it should be more money since they are more rare and not often found in lots.

I also have a deep love for the early 90s Ghost Rider comics. Issues 1-50 are fantastic. Never can find many books past 50 though they thinned out the amount of books released towards the mid 90s.

Love to read 'em don't give a shit about collecting 'em. Which is why I prefer them in tpb form.

well the only reason to collect them is to have the 'complete story' . I used to like all heroes of comics, but now as an adult, I can enjoy Conan for what it is, and for nostalgic reasons, and for its adult nature as well, I love Ghost Rider. Marvel is so dumb, if they would have made the Ghost Rider movies based on the Danny Ketch 90s comics, it would have been a huge hit.

With the way they got it set up, they can make a 3rd movie tie in the comic series, since Dan was the 2nd Ghost Rider and then Johnny Blaze has to intervene and it would just make a great 3rd movie and be the best in the whole franchise. Just take it from the comics! its not like any of these kids nowadays read em!

X-Universe FTW

They don't make comic book movies for comic fans. I mean , imagine how ridiculous looking the X-Men movies would have been if they used the same outfits as in the comics.

same characters - different media - different interpretations
though I'd have loved to see Iceman conjuring and sliding on ice platforms :)

way behind on Adventure Time, Wolverine & The X-Men, Uncanny Avengers and such. Locke & Key just ended so that one's off the list.

I love comic books, my Dad and I have a collection of 8000+.

I'm a big fan of silver age Marvel - Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four are my favorites. Early Spidey is the BEST. I also love Iron Man and Captain America (Tales of Suspense).

You know, I could keep going, but I shouldn't, this is silly. But yeah. I like comic books. Haven't read many of them lately, I must admit.

I have a lot of Hokuto No ken graphic novels, as well as the Viz FOTNS comics from the nineties. A few Jojos as well.

What else? Stacks of Street Fighter III New Generation, Third Strike and Zero 3 comics I picked up in china town back in '97. Some really dynamic and violent action in those. One of them has a thermal print of Ken after being bashed by Urien that you reveal by laying your palm over it and warming it up.

I have not bought comics for years due to other commitments but have been getting my superhero fix from those DC animated movies, which as to be expected neatly shit over anything DC/Marvel related coming from Hollywood.

I have the Chakan graphic novel by RAK Graphics as well somewhere, I ordered it back in the day after being impressed with the story in the game.

Shouts to the old 2000ADs and 2000AD Presents as well, some great stand alone stories back in the eighties man :cool:

yeah i read a few comics

I used to read a bunch of comics as a kid, but it was all Archie, Disney, Star Wars, and Nintendo Comics System. Never got into Superheroes, still don't care for them today.

i cant do digital comics. i need to have the actual book in my hand so i can be outside smoking a cigar reading it, or on the can

its not the same as digital. At least with a rom you can hook it to your tv by many means, its not the same as a booklet though.

Never really got much into any of the bigger publishers like DC or Marvel.

I mainly grew up on some smaller Scifi adventure comics such as Sam Slade: RoboHunter and Dani Futuro.
Recently got back into comic books and have been picking up some I've missed out on.

Such as "The Thing" comics (the alien parasite one, not the big rock thingy), Cyberfrog, Robocop vs Terminator, Judge Dredd comics,
2000AD comics, Machine Man, TMNT, Rescue Rangers, New Ghostbusters, Robot Fighter and more :)

I like the idea of having comics, but I know it'd be something else over which to become obsessed. I love the artwork, but am not mad keen on crossovers; that said occasionally I do like them when handled well. Aliens Vs Predator works like cheese and pickle. Stuff like Watchmen Vs Transformers I'm not so keen on.

zombies vs transformers was ass
mostly because zombies are not a threat to transfomers ( human zombies anyway )

and it has already been done quite well in the tf uk story city of fear

Growing up, I had to have the comic adaptations of movies and TV shows. I just thought they were cool for some odd reason. I still have quite a few of them. Robocop (Marvel), V, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Buckaroo Banzai, T2, etc.

yeah i got a Robocop 2 comic that is scene by scene EXACTLY like the movie minus the gore

its awfull its one long fight scene that hinges on a lot of coincidences and even more suspension of disbelif even more so when you take 2006's civil war event in consideration

Wow NICE Robocop collection. The non marvel ones are the best, they are graphic and violent and have cool visuals. I own a few of the ones you have pictured.

Agreed, the Darkhorse issues always where much grittier ... the Robocop vs Terminator issues specifically stood out to me when I was younger..

Oh man the Robocop vs Terminator, i only own the first couple of issues and am dying to see how that series ends. Its SUCH an awesome story. I read it pretty recently (few years ago)

Most of my comics are digital and for the most part not entirely legal. But to be fair there aren't any comic book stores in my area

Anyway, I have
-Progs 723-1100 of 2000 AD (the place where I got no longer exists, so I consider myself fortunate to have it)
-Volumes 1-4 of Judge Dredd: The Megazine
-Random assortments of 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Annuals
-Complete run of Toxic! (honestly took me forever to find)
-Complete run of DC's take on Judge Dredd and it's monthly sub-publication, Legends Of The Law
-Volume 1 of Mike Grell's The Warlord (along with 1st Issue Special #8)
-Complete run of Punisher 2099

For the most part, I'm a fan of off beat characters like Plastic Man, The Tick, The Maxx, Speedball, and Howard The Duck

The Maxx! ! yes.... Less and less people are familiar with this great series... which is too bad ... I really enjoyed the Animated version aswell.

including the new maximised series from idw and the tv series

the tv series was good even if the dragon wasnt included with it but mako was ( both owned by erik larsen )

When it comes to DC/Marvel characters, I got most enjoyment from games and 90's cartoons. Personally, I couldn't enjoy the comics at all because the stories were too complex for me at the time. I guess kids weren't the target audience.

But to this day, I still prefer to read comics that are easier to get into. My favorite by far is Tex Willer, a western themed italian series. Lots of humor and clever solutions for dangerous situations.

THE MAXX! damn bro, I once went to a yard sale , bought a buncha comics and a SIGNED autograph of an original drawing by the artist himself. I somehow lost it on the way to the car because when i got home it was no where to be found. Got a buncha comics and that for 7$ . Still sad, not a big fan of the comic book but I own the first two issues and other than that never really got into it. Dunno why. Art style was tribalish and unique so i liked it cuz of that. I also remember the 'adult' cartoon of it too in the mid to late 90s

^ later issues of the maxx get really really weird
yes even more weird after issue 16 or so it jumps forward around 11 to 16 years and from there on in it takes a turn for the bizarre

and focuses on sara and her maxx norbert ( dont ask )

It gets into some real thespian level storytelling, trust me and I loved how inconsistent, yet still enjoyable the artstyle is. Also IDW is currently in the process of re-releasing the series with god-awful digital recolors.

i loved some Image comics when they first came out. The art was wonderful. Unfortunately they only had one series i enjoyed to death.

art is what most image comics had going for them

story ? not so much

spawn was just treading water
and the few image comics that actually went anywhere were the maxx and the savage dragon ( which is never afraid to make changes stick )

Speaking of Valiant, why haven't we gotten a Shadowman movie? Ice Cube's production company Cube Vision has had the rights for about 14 years now.
