Well, I am definitely in the same camp as those who say that both consoles have their strengths and weaknesses, both tech-wise and library-wise.
As far as libraries go, the console you prefer will often coincide with which game genres you prefer. Personally, I don't have any trouble finding things I like on both consoles ;).
But it's definitely more fun (read: less financially painful) to pick up games for the Genesis these days!
I don't see how this would work. It'd still need a modified VDC somewhere accessible by the CPU to provide additional color capabilities. From what I recall, the problem with the Genesis and replacing the VDC with something that pumps out more is that there is no internal way to bypass the existing VDC to access the video output. The 32X's cabling got around this by providing its own cable that bypasses the Genesis's internal video pathways completely external to the unit, hence the hoops it did.Quote:

Then there's the whole "The Sega CD added nothing but CD-Audio and crappy FMV to the Genesis" they love saying even in the face of evidence (I've seen this said on a game that clearly used the ASIC, can't remember which). I've seen SNES fanboys claim mode-7 could do the driving stages in batman returns. Ignorance is bliss?
I'm saying people seriously underestimate the impact color has. Lack of color played a hand in every problem of the Genesis.
It's certainly enough to convince fanboys of the "superiority" of the SNES.
What is it with some of these people anyway? You think you make a breakthrough, explaining how the SNES isn't the supremely powerful machine the spec sheet it has claims it to be, and how the Genesis is a lot more than they suspect, and they still come back to the "superiority" jazz.
Always with that word too... I mean, I know it doesn't mean anything bad by default, but I can't help but associate it with the racists that have used it, and I think of Doctor Octopus using it as well. From racist D-bags to super villains to SNES fanboys...
That, and what is it with Nintendo consoles, that they seem to give their owners such an inferiority complex that everything about their machines has to be better than everything else about the consoles of their generation?
...and I thought I was finally past this, but it seems like there's always going to be a fanboy that will find some way to get under my skin.
Edit: Also, horrible title for a topic, but I guess it's not like SNES fanboys haven't done worse. I want to get to the point where I just don't care anymore, because when you care enough to want one console to be the better, then you're a fanboy.

Yeah, I messed up in what I meant to say. Obviously it would have to go through either the cartridge slot or the side expansion slot, otherwise it's just a thing that sits there and doesn't do anything. What I envisioned was, yes, a little gizmo that attaches to the A/V out port, but hardwired to a cartridge passthrough connector. So like a very small 32x (or Game Genie or Honey Bee adapter etc.) with a little thing sticking out of it that goes to the A/V out port. No need for separate A/V input and output ports on the unit and a crossover cable between the Genesis and the unit.Quote:

^ I'm the opposite of that, as a longtime SNES owner turned Genesis/SEGA fan. I realized that the MD and everything else Sega made caters to my tastes a lot better than any of Nintendo's platforms. Having 256 colors on screen doesn't mean anything to me if the game itself is slow or boring or easy.
^In that case though, you have to open your eyes to see what the Genesis does. I could understand still having a bias if it was the console you had, but to go in reverse, not look at what the one you did have does well, and just assume the one you currently favor is better, based off of the aesthetics... It's mind-blowing how some of these people never actually saw what they had.
Threads like this (and the myriad of similar ones here on S-16) make Sega fans look insecure and send a bad message to casual users perusing the forums. The console wars are over. Obviously both the Genesis/MD and the SNES have their strengths and weaknesses, but saying that one is "superior" to the other is just asinine at this point in time, considering it's been around 20 years since either system has seen it's heyday. Just enjoy the amazing libraries that both consoles offer. Threads like this make Sega fans look as bad as Nintendo fanboys.

The weird thing is, you know the Japanese business branches for both companies had respect for each other. I don't think there's ever been an interview where Miyamoto has said an iota of the stupid things toward Sega that company/console fanboys have.

You have to look on the bright side. All the Genesis shitting has kept prices online relatively low compared to SNES/NES nostalgia-orgies. It was the perfect time for me to start exploring the Genesis library! :cool:

This argument has been raging since the school playgrounds of the early 90s and will never die. While I know that both machines have great games some of the crap that is spouted on Youtube and elsewhere on the net about the Mega Drive by Nintendo fans is truly staggering. No...he chose Battletoads... Now some might argue that he isn't aware of the games I just mentioned for the Mega Drive and I don't believe that for a second, I think he knows very well how great they sound and just doesn't want to give the Mega Drive any more credit than he absolutely has to due to the physical pain it obviously causes him but, for the sake of argument, let's say that he truly is unaware of them, well in that case what the fuck is he doing presenting himself as some sort of authority on the history of games and consoles? On a side note my eight year old nephew loves playing on his Nintendo Wii and is a huge fan of Mario Kart and the Mario platformers but his absolute favourite game is Sonic Classic Collection that I got him for his DS on his fifth birthday. He always asked me about my SEGA collection and asked me what gaming was like when I was his age and as soon as he played on the old classic Sonic games on his DS and then played Streets of Rage II with me on my Mega Drive he was hooked and, because he heard me joking about it, now keeps saying that SEGA does what Nintendon't! You see what levels those Nintendo drones that infest the internet have made me stoop to? I've become as childish as them now. Well they started it! ;)
I think the SNES lovers are, on the whole, much more defensive about the SNES because they had to be back in the day. The SNES was the uncool kiddie system, while the Genesis was the mature, adult-oriented system with violent arcade games. I know others have said this before, and it was certainly true in my situation, but when I was younger nobody wanted an SNES and if their parents bought them one they felt embarrassed by it. But the people who had an SNES and thought it was great had to really stand up for their system, and they still feel a strong attachment to it today, which is why there are so many SNES fanboys.
Are you basically saying that a lot of them have memories of being bullied by Mega Drive fans throughout their childhood, for owning a percieved 'kiddie machine', and the psychological damage this caused them means that they are now unable to talk about the 16-bit era of gaming with anything even remotely approaching a balanced viewpoint? It's a theory! For what it's worth where I grew up SEGA was king and I only knew of one boy who had a SNES. I'm sure that position was reversed though depending on where in the UK, and indeed where in the world, that you grew up. I'm sure there were some guys and gals scattered here and there flying the SEGA flag alone surrounded by a sea of Nintendo fanboys back in the day. I'm not sure the unbelievable bias that exists online against SEGA and their past glories today is entirely down to Ninty fans feeling like some sort of oppressed people back when the Mega Drive ruled but like I said, it's a theory.Quote:
