SC IV was #2 but yes predicitably they praised it to the hilt. They ranked Bloodlines ahead of Rondo though which only got an honorable mention. Maybe thet thought their audience doesnt know Rondo because it was an import but it got released on Wii VC a long time ago so plenty of people know it now. No excuse.
As much as I prefer the old games, I really enjoyed Lords of Shadow 1 & 2. Turd seems like an overstatement. Funny how people whine about it being in the vein of GoW/DMC, when Super Mario Bros. used the side-scroller style from other games, and nobody complains about that.
I like:
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
- Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
- Super Castlevania IV
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
I think you should reconsider and put Super Castlevania IV on your list...
Their Nintendo bias is probably why they put III and IV ahead of Rondo. Granted its tough because III and IV are good games but I dont know anyone who says they are better than Rondo except maybe Nintendo fanboys.
Yeah, no way should RoB have been left off the list.
Hmm...
1. Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
2. Rondo of Blood (TCD)
3. Legacy of Darkness (N64)
4. Portrait of Ruin (DS)
5. Castlevania III (NES)
Top honorable mentions: Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (GB), Symphony of the Night (various)
In no particular order:
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Master of Darkness: because fuck Screw Attack
More like passtlevania.
1. Rondo of Blood (TCD)
2. Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
3. Symphony On the Night (PS1)
4. Castlevania Chronicles (PS1)
5. Castlevania III (NES)
I first played LoD in the mid '00s, and went in with somewhat low expectations because I'd heard plenty of bad things about it... but it's really good! Great game. Great sense of atmosphere, good platforming, good level designs, some solid puzzles, and decent if not great action; it's a very good game that balances action, exploration, and platforming well. It's easily the best 3d Castlevania game, and the N64 Castlevanias are the only ones that play like platformers at all, which is a definite plus for them given that I like the genre! They're more platform/adventure games, but the mix works well. It's not perfect certainly, but it is good. I wish Konami had continued to make games like them... oh well.
