Sega 16 seems to have a higher percentage of Canadian posters than most other gaming sites so I thought it might be a good place to discuss Canadian content (locations, characters, etc..) in video games. Of course, people from elsewhere are welcome but I don't know if it will interest them much.
There are more examples from the modern era than classic gaming (especially outside of the sports genre) due to the rise of Canadian developers in recent years. I'm excited to finally see us get more representation and add some variety instead of just having NYC or Tokyo for the millionth time.
It's cool that Ubisoft included Montreal in Assassin's Creed IV and Quebec City in the DLC. You can see Toronto get nuked in Far Cry: Blood Dragon's intro.
Montreal's appearance in Deus Ex: HR was a little disappointing for me as I expected more of a big hub level like Detroit or Shanghai.
Props to Bioware for Edmonton in MDK2 and the impressive opening level of Mass Effect 3 in Vancouver. I think Retro City Rampage sucks as a game but I liked the nods to Vancouver locations.
One of the strangest examples of Canadian content is Deadlight, a game developed in Spain. It mostly takes place in Seattle but the small town of Hope, BC has a cameo, and there's a reference to Karla Homolka thrown in for some reason.
What Canadian content do you like or would like to see happen?
