Game Center CX: Kacho On!!

Was incredibly surprised to not see a thread about this on this forum

Game Center CX (also known as "Retro Game Master" in America) is a reality tv show from Japan where a late 30's (now early 40's) comedian employed as a video game player must beat increasingly difficult games in order to keep his job and get elevated in his position (though this was later dropped for no apparent reason).

At face value, it may seem like an incredibly dull concept (especially since it's now been on the air for 10 years), but there's just something about Arino's determination and the side segments (like where they go to various arcades *Game Centers* around Japan) that's really endearing

At least not me! But there was quite a bit of anime hate for awhile here too.

This was discussed in another thread already (can't recall which), but suffice to say that there's a lot less quality anime these days

I actually did an old-ass thread back when Kotaku announced their translated eps, which ended up sucking anyway (the eps, that is)

I later watched several fan-translated eps, and they were pretty damn good. Personal favs are Golgo 13 (the hotel bits, jeez...), Paris-Dakar Rally Special (Arino's utter bafflement at the game is something to behold) and First Samurai (MONDO!), as well as the GCCX in USA special, if only for Arino trying to play Robotron 2084.

Haven't watched any other eps in ages, but I should get back to that.

I love this show! I've seen every episode that has a translation. I even have the official translated DVD release.
