It's just an Ouya mixed with a Roku.
And look at the types of games it's going to have-
Hipster wedding ring? Check.
It stinks of the Panasonic Jungle.

I almost got a Ouya..but I just couldnt do it. I give Amazon credit for trying to do their own thing. I for one am not interested in the Amazon ecosystem I cant stand it actually. My Kindle Fire 2 is going to get rooted at some point and be a basic Android tablet but then again I am an android purest. Any game you see on FireTV you will see in Playstore or Appstore most likely first.

Hmm, I might get one eventually. Judging by this chart this amazon device is the clear leader technically. With a prime account, this thing could be epic.
if it can get XBMC on it and still retain its features I might go for it. I have an apple TV, and it's not bad... but I find some of it's limitations annoying.
One thing I'd love to be able to do is get one of these small devices and a USB DVD/BRD drive that can plug in to play your disks.

TC is going to be shocked at how well this ends up selling, IMO.
I got the Ouya. I thought it might turn into a casual gaming mega console, but it fell flatter than even I anticipated. It's not that the games are Android ports, but most just aren't very good even at being casualware. There have been a few cool little games, but most of them are crap or want to nickle and dime you with micro transactions.
I loath the micro transaction model BTW. I would quit gaming completely before I put up with this shit. Luckily I pretty much have except for classic stuff.
Yeah, my interest in this thing would be limited to "rooting" it and installing my own OS.
I wish it had more USB ports though. I see it has Ethernet, but only one USB port. Although I thought it was lame for Nintendo not to include an Ethernet port on their $350 console, in this case I'd give it up for another USB port.
Yeah... we'll see. I'd rather get a real console... but maybe it'll have some good games?
We'll see, but at least Amazon is trying -- I mean, they've hired game developers, bought a studio or two, and will have real first-party games on their system. Can any of their competitors in this field say the same?
It's a streaming device, not a games console.
Agreed with others. If this gets root and XBMC it could be fun. Otherwise I'll stick with a HTPC and Logitech K400. Going from a Roku remote to a keyboard for input is day and fucking night. I don't think I'll be trading that for sketchy voice recognition.
If I get one it will never see a game, ever. It's just junk. That games preview video is mostly nice and flashy, but the vast majority of games on the thing are going to be nothing but ports of games from the cellphone/tablet markets.
Amazon would have to sink a ton of cash into making games for it for it to get anything, and that's just not what most people looking at this will even care about.
It has sideload capabilities, so XBMC is a good bet on it at some point. So I'll keep an eye on it.
One more junk gadget for the consumerist society.
