Correct. The Game Genie can be used as a passthrough for games that simply don't fit. For games that are region locked, you may be able to use a code to disable the region checking. I'm sure there are some games where it won't work but it's worked for everything I've tried.
The Game Genie is also helpful in allowing a later model Genesis to play early games like Populus & Budokan.
No codes needed, just press start and they fire right up.
As for locked out games...there are some GG codes out there for certain games but I don't think every locked out game has a code (I never found one for Bare Knuckle 2).
But as stated, it will work as a pass-through device for any pre-lockout MD games (anything before mid-1992 is almost certain to not have a region lockout).
You can't save if the game has a battery and you use the Game Genie.
Alright, do you know if any of these japanese MegaDrive titles are region protected from the GG?:Quote:

I've never seen GG codes for either of those games, but then I don't really have to look hard as my system is modded. (hence why I never found one for Bare Knuckle 2)
Those are both later (post 1992) releases so to be safe i'd say they do have a region lockout.
If you want to check for region protection, the easiest way to do it is to run Kega and manually set the region to US (not auto). If the rom loads like that, it's not region protected. If it is, then you start looking for codes.Quote:

some of the region protected games that require codes to play might be slightly glitchy and not display the graphics correctly, one of the games I know of that does this is yu yu hakusho makyo toitsusen.
i'll bet that if its a 50Hz game running on a 60Hz system, and is being glitchy, its because it was designed for 240 v-pixels..Quote:

And when I tried Rocket Knight, all I got was black screen for two seconds, then the Konami logo just appeared on screen, and nothing happened. I tried pressing, A, B, C, Start, everything, and it didn't do nothin'.
SM is region locked. If you must get your young girls in short skirts fix, I'd suggest going region free.
I dunno what the deal with RK is.
Both are definitely locked. I tried the easy patch (changing the "J" in the header to "U") but that didn't work, so they're doing more than just checking the region letter. I haven't been able to find anything else useful about them. Probably someone with more (read: any) Genesis programming experience would need to look at it.Quote:

It would be far easier and cheaper to modify your system than to find a converter cartridge.
Rocket Knight Adventures checks the video-out frequency and the console's internal region setting. So changing the ROM header won't do any good, modding's the only option.Quote:

I installed both switches on my Genesis, language and frequency.. stupid radiocrap didn't have slider switches, only toggle switches...
anyway, i prefer a "fixed" system, the joy of playing anything..
not to mention, in 50Hz you have a slightly higher screen resolution, and the CPU has more cycles it can use for speed (programming standpoint)... i use 50Hz mode for specialty programs..
I've never used the 50Hz switch on my system.
Not even sure why I bothered to install one.
for me, it makes a game so slow, they become easy :P
to be honest there really isn't any other place to get a coverter cart other then ebay, even then they rarely turn up on there and their very hard to find and very expensive. for about the cost of a converter cart or less you would be better off buying a japanese megadrive to play the region locked games.Quote:

Any of ye know where I can get a list of unblocking codes for my megadrive so that I might be able to play the game on my main system?
This is where I found the ones I have: http://www.whipassgaming.com/genesis...nesisindex.htmQuote:

What's a "Fixed" system? And what risks are involved in installing one of those switch things you guys speak of?Quote:

there's an online mod for euro systems, but oddly they require 6 wires.. my mod only requires 4.. (as when all traces are cut, it defaults to a mode.. then you just take the "default" mode as an advantage, removing 2 wires, and just use 4 as a modifier of the default mode... (the term "modifier" is my own...)
Soldering wires to pins and solder points on the circuit board. Nothing you need an unpronouncable Electronics degree to perform, but you need to know which end of a soldering iron is hot. :)Quote:

Hi All,
Not sure if I'm posting in the correct area. New to this. I had a question about a game called dinosaurs for hire. I was looking for both 1 & 2 player game genie codes but could only find 1 player game genie codes. I see there was 1 & 2 player megadrive type of game codes for infinite lives & health but don't see that for the USA version. Thanks for any help. Not all game genie website are created equal. I have found bits and pieces of game codes all over the place.
Best Regards,
Vader
