Flash carts make more sense for SNES than any other console. Do yourself a favor and buy an SD2SNES for ~$200 and play whatever games you want. It beats paying $200 a piece for common loose carts

Now, I think it's better to emulate or just buy a flash cart
Any Games won't be cheap for this long
You'd think with other ways to access some of the games, they'd drop in price, but it seems the opposite is happening. Chrono Trigger: PS1, DS, I'd imagine a virtual console release, SNES version is going for $100. Earthbound is on virtual console, SNES version is going for over $1000, and around $200 used...
CIB prices are highway robbery.
You could go out and buy a new system with those prices...
I just got a snes..a system I never had as a kid put played a few times at a friends house. Unfortunately I am enjoying it most out of al of my systems and would like to buy more. Even for an emulator though...$200 is too much. Got my snes for $40 with super Mario world and I thought that was too much but since getting it and seeing the prices I'm a bit blown away coming from collecting master system/genesis. Nintendo anything is overpriced...I think they'll go down eventually- seems like it's a trend. I always trade my Nintendo stuff for sega stuff because I can get 3-4 times as many games usually.
I am going to pick up "out to lunch" because it's cheap and like burgertime but a little better graphics/play
Lets go see how much my favourite SNES game is going for:
Super Metroid Buy It Now: $45. Mother fucker.
And people like this are just day-dreaming. You wanna pay $135 for Super Metroid loose cart?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Metroi...item27e2dd24cb
See theres the problem. People will see that ad, and think "okay I better price my cart in the realms of that one".
Cmon guys, the constant bitching towards prices of old school titles isn't gong to help lower their value, might actually increase awareness.
I mean people had a chance to get there seeking titles before the explosion of 2011 happen and they weren't even interested in them till popular gaming sites started talking about them. This pretty much led up to popularity for old game titles, which then led up to demand. Hell I started collecting loose snes titles around 2007 mainly for the fact that they gave me more pleasure than the PS2 or gamecube did and was lucky enough to get a few titles that instantly jumped up in price.
I saw the day games like Skyblazer and Run Saber shot up in value just a few days after I purchased my boxed copies of them. It was freakie, like I was just looking up for snes titles I haven't heard of before, saw a couple of gameplay videos of them and got interested enough to get them. Then just BOOM, they went from $15 games to $47 games.
Like how the hell does that just happen?
What the hell are you talking about? I don't even collect for the SNES but I'll bitch about the price gouging that is currently going on! I really feel bad for the SNES enthusiasts among us who enjoy the SNES library but can't afford to enjoy the games. Alot of the games have seen a significant increase in terms of pricing online. Even though I don't really collect for the system, I'm always keeping an eye on sold listings for various SNES games to see what people are willing to pay. I sometimes wonder whether the person who has paid $500.00+ for a CIB of a video game is actually playing it or has put it in a clear plastic box and placed it on their mantle to stare at. $500.00 for a video game? Rediculous! Nothing lasts forever but some people don't realize that! They look to satisfy their immediate wants and needs without looking at the reprocussions!
Even if money is no object, paying the asking price for some of these sought after SNES titles is moronic!
To be quite fair, this is not only exclusive to the SNES community. If you look at the recent sold listings of some of the sought after SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive games like M.U.S.H.A., individuals have purchased a CIB copy for $300.00+! Is it worth the asking price? HELL NO! I own a copy of the game and I don't think it is worth this much! What about a game like Crusader of Centy? People have paid between $300.00-400.00 for a complete copy of this game. Is it worth this much? HELL NO! Again I own a CIB copy of this game and I definitely don't believe this game is worth a fraction of the asking price.
In both instances I bought my copies of the game locally for a pittance. In the case of Crusader of Centy I only paid 50 cents and it was shrink wrapped. I opened that sucker up and played it even though I knew that I could easily sell the game for a pretty penny! Games are meant to be played! Why don't I sell my copies you ask? I think it's obvious. I really enjoy the console's offerings. At the moment, I could purchase a CIB copy of Eliminate Down for $400.00. Will I? HELL NO! The truth is that although it is well below the online asking price, it's true intrinsic value is not worth that the seller is asking for it.
Rather than patting each other on the back for acquiring a game for a princely sum, individuals need to call the prices into question. People see a buy it now price of $175.00+ and believe that that is the fair market value when it really isn't.
That's why I'm glad I picked up a lot of the 1st party SNES stuff while it was still fair in price, got the jump on them before they could go up (some I've had since I got my system back in 91, and my still in box Super Metroid). I have slowly been building my SNES library and have started to hit more SFC stuff before it too can take off in price. The NES I was well ahead of, 318 games, counting a few FC games. So most of the stuff I like for that system I already have other than a few that have gotten to the point of no return, some I have gotten lucky on, like locally finding a loose Cowboy Kid for $5 mere months before it started hitting $300, or a copy of NES Bonk for $20 locally when it was selling on ebay for about $100. This is not something I always get lucky on, just was fortunate a few times.
This is why my Genesis library is bigger than my SNES library, but right now I'm trying to balance both out equally, slowed on Genesis collecting other than 1 recent pickup (Dynamite Duke). Once I get SNES and Genesis numbers about even, I'll return to my prior pace of picking up Genesis games. SNES may have to go more on the import route on, save for stuff like the awful port of Captain Commando or Knights of the Round (to be fair the SFC versions are still a tad cheaper than their US counterparts).
Holy crap, I just looked up Pocky & Rocky 2, which was one of my favorites playing at a friend's house back in the day, and people want $150 cart only. That's bonkers.
Yeah, screw the SNES market, man.
Seriously, just look games up at GameFAQs. They'll refer to Amazon prices, and a lot of common games will go for ~$500 CIB. No game is worth that, no matter what anyone thinks of the console that plays them.
You're right about people looking at asking prices in general, like that $45 listing, instead of what games are actually selling for. You can get it on eBay for $15 shipped:
