I just found a cheap copy of Super Metroid loose in the wild. Just keep looking for sales, you'd be surprised what you can find for cheap. A couple of years ago I found Knuckles Chaotix for 99 cents!! Or this reminds me of a video of a guy fucking with a SNES shark, it rules we should all do this...

This guy rules....
I'm so glad I was able to collect a good bit of the SNES games I wanted a few years ago, the pricing is just out of control now. I'm turning my attention to Sega stuff for a while, where the prices haven't reached insane status yet( Saturn NA RPG titles excepted).
I managed to score Tiny Toons: Buster Busts Loose, Bonkers, and Taz-Mania all for under 10 dollars. Looking for the more obscure but not highly sought after gems. Frantic Flea was another that I liked which comes to mind. IMHO most of the uber popular games were very overrated, and there are alot of them that have been mentioned which are not astronomical in price that are still good. Will keep an eye out.
If there's one genre that I really like which the SNES does well, it's platformers.
+1. In fact, one of the biggest reasons I got back into the SNES back in 2006 was when I had the biggest craving to play some platformers, but found my Saturn library to be sorely lacking in that timeless genre. The SNES is loaded with them, and they range from epic to playable and enjoyable. You're right, there are a lot of quietly decent ones that fly under the radar!
IMHO Super Mario World and All-Stars are essentials, and some of my all-time favorites. I remember owning and playing them at a terribly young age. I remember when Donkey Kong Country came out, I enjoyed it, but my relatives seemed to like it more than I did. It wasn't until Diddy's Kong Quest and Dixie's Double Trouble that I felt the game was brought to a new level and those were also good. The first Magical Quest with Mickey was another childhood favorite that I played over and over again. Played the second in recent years and thought it was just 'ok', I felt it was very awkward in design and couldn't measure up to the first. Never got to play much of the third, though.
You're also right about Saturn lacking quality platformers, especially exclusive ones. I loved Astal, both Clockwork Knight games, and bought the system mainly for NiGHTs, but come on, even Genesis did the platformer genre better than that!
None of the 2D consoles/handhelds were lacking for platformers, but the Saturn was made at a time when consumer expectations were all about 3D, so 2D platformers really weren't going to be a big thing throughout that whole generation.
Lot of good suggestions here. Especially, Star Fox.
Also, Zelda: A Link to the Past is under $30 on Amazon from individual sellers. That's cart-only, of course. For one of the best games on the system, that's not bad.
Good news is that in my area of the planet the SNES inflation has yet to full lay itself down. $15 for Donkey Kong Country is the high end price at the expensive pawn shop. However I can see the prices slowly rising.
I just got some new SNES games today and so far Taz Mania is not as good as I remember. About to play Bonkers, Buster Busts Loose, and some others. I also finished Super Widget today with the proper ending. I realized that game is alot better than I initially thought, as it was a childhood favorite. MUCH better than Taz Mania, but alas too easy! Let's hope Bonkers and Buster Busts Loose hold up better! My favorite game in my nearly non-existent SNES collection is actually Parodius!
