Best 68000 based home gaming computer

Yet another poll of this type.

So what was the best home gaming computer based on the Motorola 68000

Was it the:

Amiga

Atari ST

Macintosh (I personally don't see the early Macs as gaming machines but I'll throw it in anyway)

Or Sharp X68000

Since the Sharp was never released outside Japan, I'll add this YouTube video showing various games running of a emulation X68000 emu

It's all about the TRS-80 Model 16!

Just kidding. I vote Amiga. I like the ST too, but I prefer Amiga's OS and games. Macintosh just sucks.

I voted Mac because the poll asked which is the best 68000 based computer. But the thread asks which is the best 68000 based gaming computer. I only voted based on the poll's question, not the thread's. Otherwise I'd vote for the x68000 since it had a lot of great arcade translations.

I'm gonna have to go with an Amiga.

But was it 68k-based? Edit: wikipedia tells me it used a Z80 for a CPU.

Amiga, out of nostalgia, for me.

I voted for X68000 because its arcade ports are MUCH closer to the arcade than MD/Genesis, SegaCD, SNES, Amiga, etc.




Ever wanted to see how the original version of ThunderForce II looked & sounded like in 1988 ? Many of the stages from the Sharp X68000 version are here, including its 2 exclusive stages that are not in the 1989 MegaDrive/Genesis version. Also stage 1-1 and 1-2 from the Sega version are below for comparison.

MegaDrive/Genesis version

Music sounds better on the Mega Drive. Drums are oo loud on the X6800 version. Voices sound cleaner on the Genesis except the Genesis cuts the music as they play and the opening male voice sounds odd. X68000 female voice sounds more scratchy than the Genesis. Of course the opening male voice doesn't exactly sound great on the X68000 version, either. I like the extra layer of scrolling in the X68000 version.

So X68000 = better graphics and Genesis/MD = Better sound/music

EDIT: Sounds like the music on the X68000 version has slowdown issues. The "exclusive stage" seems to have music from another stage which is in the Genesis version. Does the Genesis version have more music? The X68000 version seems to repeat some stage's music.

I never could figure out what the guy said before "good luck" in that game.

Something retarded like "This is Exceliza... Roger, Good Luck". In the X68000 version he says "This is Exceliza, I want to fly now... Roger Good Luck." This statement in both games is nonsensical. TechnoSoft has always had the poorest grasp of the English language compared to all other Japanese companies... perhaps even worse than SNK!

I would have to say the Amiga. X68000 would be awesome but they are not easy to pick up.

Amiga for sure, it has the variety of games that the other machines just can't compare with. Amiga outlasted all these other machines with commercial games and software development, so it had loads more modern stuff avaiable for it.

X68000>Amiga by far.

What a load of crap. TRS-80 by a landslide.

I voted for the only one whose games I'm familiar with, which is the X68000.

But I can't imagine that the other computers would top the X68000's game catalog, for me anyways.
