Official Mario kart 8 thread.

So a little bit of shameless promotion of myself getting the game earlier than intended (game comes out friday 30th)

I just played for a couple of hours and needless to say, it is another great installment in the series. Actually it isn't, mario kart wii was crap. This one however is a game that proves incredible content, tweaks and high polish can really result in an already great series become even better. The music in mario kart games has always been quite shit but this time they've improved on that as well. It's a lot more balanced and skill based. I've been playing some online matches where I hadn't got reached at first place. This is something i've never experienced in a mario kart game. I think the rubberbanding is gone or very unnoticable. Also the unfair items are less often aquired. The game is very adictive, moreso than previous installment. There's a lot of charm everywhere so far

If you have a WII U just try it out and see for yourself. I'm not kidding if I say that it isn't easy to say that this is just another mario kart.

Anyway so when was the last time you've played a mario kart game and are you planning on getting mario kart 8?

I don't know when, but I know they haven't had rubber band AI since at least Mario Kart Wii (maybe started with Double Dash, but I haven't played it in years). But, they've been so pathetically easy without it that if it weren't for the online, I'd miss it.

I'm kind of looking forward to this. What made the wii game so bad? The last one I played was Double Dash and that was only briefly years ago.

Actually metalwario you may be right. Catching up is really hard if you dont play well.

The wii game was an unbalanced piece of garbage. When I first played it for a couple of weeks I didn't like it but I couldn't put my finger on why it was why I didn't like it. Not long ago I went back because they were shutting down the servers on 20th may, and there's just all sorts of things wrong with the game. It was a spamfest of unfair items. The stages weren't very good either and the motorbikes were overpowered. Also the overall feel of controls wasn't very satisfactory imo. Like everything that's fixed in mk8 now was broken in the wii game.

There was a lot wrong with the game but this mario kart 8 feels like they really prioritized balancing. If you played mario kart 7, at first it will feel similar, but not long after you play a couple of games online you will notice that they've tweaked a lot of things including the feel and physics of the driving. I'm holding back on praise because I wanna wait to hear more thoughts but i'm really impressed
