I saw a trailer for this just last night.
To be honest, I wasn't that fond of Gauntlet Legends, or its Dark Legacy followup. They weren't bad per se, but they felt too drawn out at times, and got stale after a while. I enjoyed The Seven Sorrows quite a bit though, despite how it got lower scores with its reviews. As for this latest entry, I'll be waiting until it's been reviewed a fair bit before deciding if I want to get it or not. It looks more like Diablo than Gauntlet from the trailer, which could go either way in terms of making it fun, or making it feel like a lesser knockoff of the Diablo franchise. So, we'll see.
Gauntlet Legends and Dark Legacy are two of my favorite games ever. They're probably my favorite action-RPGs ever, in fact... or at minimum they are very high on the list. Amazing, amazing games... but yes, Seven Sorrows was a horrendous debacle of a game. It's not a Gauntlet game in any imaginable way. It was originally supposed to be something, but it totally fell apart during development; I'm glad that the PC version was cancelled, or else I'd have surely actually spent more than a few bucks on that terrible thing.
As for this game, it's looking fun, but it's nothing like either Legends or Seven Sorrows, for sure; it's a generic-looking topdown action-RPG, of a style that there are a fair number of these days. It looks like fun for sure, and I"ll definitely get it eventually, but it's clearly no Gauntlet Legends. Ah well...
Wow, it's all slow and shit. Is this the legacy of modern games? There should be SHITLOADS of enemies after them all the time.
Those are my thoughts on it too. I loved Legends/Dark Legacy, briefly played Seven Sorrows though it didn't impress me. This one just looks... eh. Doesn't seem much like the classic Gauntlets either.
I did get this vibe about it, so I watched some vids of Gauntlet IV and Dark Legacy to refresh my memory again and yeah... this is a bit lacking there compared to them.
It looks like a poor Diablo III clone. Even the music reminds me of Diablo III.
I don't think it's quite on Diablo III's level, though. That game clearly had a much larger budget... Gauntlet here looks more like something like Hammerwatch (PC) but in 3d, or something like that. This new Gauntlet game is from the developers of Magicka, and you can kind of see that here, though this one looks like a pretty quick project. Does it seriously not even have an announcer guy? And ugh, warrior and valkyrie are melee-only... come on, in Gauntlet all characters have ranged attacks! I know Seven Sorrows ignored that in favor of generic beat 'em up gameplay, but that's one of the many reasons why it's so, so awful.
Also, if you just run around for a few seconds the other characters all respawn? Unlimited? Modern gaming... :( Sure, they do charge you gold for each death so there is a punishment, but still.
Even so, the game looks fun and I'm sure I'll like it.
gauntlet iscool since atari. it will be the same tho.
i loved the dreamcast version to
I agree with joe r.
They should be burried in enemies.
I've always felt Gauntlet is a pretty boring game. I guess this is no different.
Never cared for the series.
