I know there 2 threads about ...I remember gong there in the 90's getting some Joystick for the SNES

I don't have any memorable thoughts on Funcoland. I went to ours a few times but it never really blew my socks off. I wanted something like Software ETC or EB someone that carried more unique stuff.
I loved funcoland. I used to go to the one near me at the time for all my game needs. I'd only hit up eb or others if fun I didn't have what I was looking for.
Funcoland was always a bit of a mystery to me. We didn't have one in the area, but I saw their ads all the time in EGM. I remember looking at their prices for used games wondering if they sold CIB copies, or if they were just loose. I always wanted to go, just to see their stock of games, but I never got the chance. Still, it was a cool feeling to have BITD to dream about it. :)
Did Funcoland or any chain store sell brand new import games back then? I faintly remember seeing Japanese games in the old Electronics Boutique in the mall. Why did they stop? Just to pander to the console and software makers?

FuncoLand is where i got my refurbised Sega CD and Saturn. My friend would buy all the NES SMB from any store he could fine because they were only .99 cents. The price sheet actually raised the price of SMB because he would buy them all up lol. He probably has 50-70 copies of SMB.
I got my original Saturn and a lot of games from Funcoland back then. I think I still even have the Funco box it came in back at my parents house!
I remember as a small child of about 5 years old seeing a shelf of sealed clearance SEGA CD games. The memory is very vivid.. There were four or five white and blue striped longboxes in a row on that shelf. This was 1999, we went there to get an N64 game, I think super smash bros.

There was one Funcoland location in Dallas I would go to a couple of times a month. The manager knew me pretty well, and we chatted now and then. When Gamestop took over, I could hear the frustration in her voice over how the company was managing things.
I don't know if she was forced out, or outright quit. I just know that one day (@1997) I showed up there and 2 dumbasses were now running the place.
I used to order stuff through the mail from funcoland. I got my Phantasy Star games and Final Fantasy II from them.
You shouldn't feel bad, RDF Global Conflict is a decent game but Smash Brothers is much better IMHO.Quote:
