always rather like star wars republic commando on the xbox
what ?
dont look at me like that
and star wars jedi academy even though its strictly speaking not a fps its just build on the quake 3 engine
I've gone on record as being a huge Goldeneye fan. I think it's the best fps on consoles to date. I've not been a big fps person in general (although I've sampled quite a few). My favorites on consoles:
1) Goldeneye
2) Halo
3) Borderlands
The last two had PC iterations, of course, but I never played them on a computer. They felt like they were designed for consoles (or at least, didn't feel like a crappy port of a PC game).
Not much else has piqued my interest enough to play for any extended period of time other than these.
I only enjoy sprite based FPS, so things like Doom, Duke 3D, Wolfenstein, and PO'ed are all I play. I've been playing modern console FPS since my friend got an Xbox in 2003, but I've never been able to come to grips with aiming with the analog stick.
I only liked this genre back when it was called run 'n gun :p
Nah, I'd say that FPS replaced overhead shooters like Front Line, Ikari Warriors, Rambo and Jackal, and/or or side scrolling rail shooters like Operation Wolf and Dynamite Duke. If FPS played anything like a Run N Gun side scroller I'd probably be a big fan of the genre.
I actually quite liked the single player in Modern Warfare 2, it was pretty bad in terms of story but the gameplay and a lot of the stages were pretty cool. Wolfenstein New Order was pretty cool too, a lot of missed opportunities, but gunplay in that was really fun (not realistic at all mind you)
Yeah, the snowmobile scene was pretty memorable for me. The online multi-player was a mess, with the bazooka hack that would kill you everytime you killed that cheater; it was frustrating.
I have high hopes that Advanced Warfare will bring back a solid single player campaign.
Modern Warfare has good production values and design, but deep down the gameplay is pretty much exactly as it was in the original Call of Duty. It's fun but gets old after you've done it so many times.
Bulletstorm is a recent FPS that was also on PS3 and 360, but I only played the PC version. It was an interesting and very fun take on the genre and reminded me of some old school shooters. I recommend it if you can get it for cheap.
Borderlands 2 BY FAR.
The story, setting, characters, and gameplay are perfect in my mind.
Anyone else play RAGE?
I thought it was a pretty cool game, with the added driving around and races in between.
I snagged Rage sometime last year for PC at $9. My HTPC can play it in 1080p with all settings all the way up and it looks nice. I like the vehicle stuff and the open world missions and whatnot. Ultimately I didn't keep playing it because it hasn't hooked me. The gameplay seems very solid for a modern FPS, I just couldn't say that it is remarkable. I'd say I like it more than CoD Blops or any of the Halos after the first one and that is about it.
I agree. Rage was decent but just not good enough to hold my attention. It's at least worth a try for less than $10.
