Many PS2 games render at 320x480 or 640x224 internally and only output at 640x480 (which explains the jaggies in DOA2 btw). So what people mistook for a lack of anti-aliasing in comparison to Dreamcast actually was a lower resolution. We recently had a PS2 developer here a year ago who confirmed this.
What's funny is that Dreamcast is capable of rendering at least 800x600 internally (Ikaruga uses this mode) but its output is limited to 640x480p60 max due to the VGA standard.
