I'm actually considering adding SMS, Game Gear, and Saturn at once. I'd add DC too, but I don't have one yet, and it's hard to find quality screen shots for all the games.

^ well iam all for that
im all for turning sega-16 in to a catch all sega site the forum is half way there to begin with
My own preference, as mentioned, would be to only add SMS at first (if anything). But if you end up going for the whole megillah, don't forget about the SG-1000, since it started the whole thing off.
That would be ideal, if I had some way to play the SG-1000! I'd love to cover it. Are there currently any sites that do?
^ only hg 101 does any thing at all with the sg-1000
personally as stated before i would prefer a catch all sega site there is only so much you can say about the megadrive or its add ons
and no site so far focusses on everything
also throw int he fact that sega-16 is one of the biggest sega sites out there and it may not be a bad idea to start catering to the rest of sega's legacy as well up untill the dreamcast anyway
Well, there's only so much for any console, but it's a lot more than most people realize. Think about it. We've been up for 10 years and haven't reviewed all the games, covered all the unreleased titles, interviewed everyone we can, or explored the back story of most of the classic games for the Genesis. So, there's still years worth of material about the Genesis worth discussing.
Still, there are several reasons why I want to explore other consoles. First, after 10 years, I expected there to be more sites out there to cover Sega's hardware. Aside from the cluster of Master System sites (which do an excellent job, mind you), there haven't been any. I'm amazed that the Saturn hasn't received a dedicated site, and the DC certainly should have at least one. There are general Sega sites out there, like Sega Nerds, but they cover general news and not comprehensive reviews and features like we do. That means there's still a niche we can fill there.
Second, most of the games we have yet to review are imports or sports titles, which aren't the kind of games that bring in readers. They deserve coverage, of course, but the small amount left will still be covered by those already doing them when we expand coverage. It's not like no more Genesis coverage will take place if we cover other consoles.
Third, the amount of participation on S-16 has diminished somewhat because most people only want to review games, and the ones they want to write about have already been covered. Few want to do in-depth articles, and by expanding to other consoles, contributor participation should pick up.
Not that I know of, other than some discussion on SMSPower. The Master System hardware can play SG-1000 games (albeit with a somewhat incorrect palette), but to play them on a US SMS, you'd either need a BIOS replacement + adapter, or a flash cart.
There's also the Dina 2-in-1, which can play ColecoVision and SG-1000 games, but it's got poor build quality and is hard to find. Personally, I just use emulation, which I think is generally quite accurate for the system.
That makes me kind of sad. I wish more people had an attitude of "Let's investigate the unknown games of the Genesis/Sega CD! How can I help?", rather than "Hey, I wanna write the 500th review of Sonic 2 on the web!" and sticking to the canonical greatest hits (many of which I find aren't that great at all, myself).
But that's just human nature, I guess. Still, so many Genesis and Sega CD games, even US-released ones, are practically unmentioned on the web...there was almost nothing substantial out there about the Warrior of Rome series, for example, and I'd like to think that I've made some tiny contribution to the world with my reviews. I'm not sure the world really needs another review of Crazy Taxi or Panzer Dragoon, but hopefully it'll also mean that all the weird stuff gets looked at before long.
^hopefully the reviewers will pick up yes
i know i am interested in reviwing saturn and dreamcast games
those are all very good reasons for wanting to branche out to other sega platforms there are dedicated saturn websites but none are quite that comprehensive
course i am already on board to expand sega-16 to include all of sega
oh god yes
dynamite cop
sega touring car racing
sonic R
busta move 4
typing of the dead
house fo the dead 1 and 2
twinkel star sprites
torico
D
sega ages v1
rampage world tour
fighters megamix
discworld 1 and 2
and so much more
so much to look at and to expand we coudl introduce many peopel to games they never heard off or played before

I'd contribute, but I'm not much of a writer, or a critic(example: I'd probably rate Batman Forever higher than an F grade :p).
As Goldenband pointed out, if you don't mind going the emulation route, Fusion(and possibly other 8-bit Sega emulators) covers the SG series. Just load the games under the Master System.
^ as long as you still point out its awfull
an an "F" would still be around 3 or 4
Just wanted to say Happy Birthday and to thank you, Melf, for all you have done for the Sega community.
I haven't been around the site and forums that long but Sega-16 was the really the place that pushed me over the edge and got me into the Genesis, even if it was a couple of decades behind everyone else.
Thanks again, from a reformed Nintendo guy. :)
