I never got to play Turok growing up because my parents wouldn't allow M-rated stuff, but I did try the first one in an emulator one time and had a good laugh. Being someone who had an N64 growing up, I can appreciate the campiness. But how do you think Turok stands today? Which were the best and worst?
they havent aged well as far as i am concerned
i remmember turok 1 being extremely expensive and you needed a memory pak for it as well which wasnt all that cheap either
and there was a huge huge wall of fog in the game which supposedly helped being atmospheric but im not sure if thats true or just the haze of nostalgia talking
i liked it except the frankly ludicrous pin point jumping from pole to pole
platforming is hard enough as it is but in first person its even more insane
who ever thought it was a great idea to have platforming in fps games shoudl be pelted with xboxes
from what i remember turok 2 was hailed as a masterpiece
the graphics were superior but the levels were huge easy to get lost in no way to save except in between these huge levels
and defending the totems was rather annoying
i dropped out of the turok series after that
Turok Evolution is a turd, avoid it at all costs.
Unfortunately. Maybe the dino mod for arma 3 could remedy the lack of good dino-shooty games. There's one on Steam that was on sale for $1 but what's the point!Quote:

Rage Wars is a good game for its genre as well (it's an arena FPS of course, different from the others). It's better in multiplayer of course, but some can be had alone. This one is the best Turok game for multiplayer, no question; 2 and 3 have 4 player modes as well, but they aren't quite as great as Rage Wars'.
As for 2, I just find 2 too hard; it's a huge, ambitious game, but I don't have much fun with it due to the extreme distances between save points, the limited lives and ammo, and the tough enemies. Turoks 1 and 3 are much more fun. They still have nice scale, but aren't quite as frustratingly difficult. They also have better framerates -- Turok 2's dips pretty low sometimes, particularly with High Res mode on. Turok 2 uses WAY too much memory card space as well... the other ones aren't like that.
I'm sure everyone remembers Turok 1. It's got close fog, but it's really ambitious for an early N64 game, and redefined FPS controls in a great way. I think it still holds up pretty well, even if it has aged some for sure.
As for Turok 3, that game's always been so absurdly overlooked, but it really is a great game! It's got a more level-based design, with smaller and more tightly designed stages. I think it has some elements of Half-Life mixed in to it, and the style works great. This is a really fun FPS from what is, in my opinion, the genres' best years (late '90s to early '00s).
Turok Evolution... I've owned it for some time, but haven't actually played it yet. It looks okay, but not great. It doesn't look like it matches up to the N64 games, no, but that's what happened to most of Acclaim. There is a reason they went from successful on the N64 to out of business before the end of the next generation, after all... they had some good 6th gen games (the Extreme-G games, some others), but not nearly enough.
I couldn't find my way out of the second level in Turok 2.
Just got the ripped version from TPB (Turok2). What a piece of shit. FPS games evolve so rapidly that the true classics remain few and far between.
I've only played 1 and 2, but I didn't care for either of them. The first one kind of had a cool atmosphere, but the fog was too much.
Turok 2 is a huge game, and yeah, it's not entirely linear. You need to explore and figure out where to go. It's a tough, tricky game. The game is really impressive in how big the world is, and in that it actually keeps track of every enemy so when you kill an enemy they stay dead, but the savepoints that are often as much as an hour apart combined with that nonlinearity and the high difficutly are just too much for me, and I give up before getting too far into the game.Quote:

Turok's fog was a common complaint at the time it came out. It was a cool game but compared to a typical draw distance like in Jumping Flash, it was claustrophobic.
