I'm pretty good at most games, but platformers are the ones I'm absolutely awful at.
I've never even gotten remotely close to beating a Mario, Sonic, or Donkey Kong game, even the newer ones give me trouble. I nearly destroyed my copy of 3D Land because I became so irate.
It pisses me off not because I suck, but apparently these games are easy as hell, and I have no clue why I am simply no good at them. My girlfriend however is a god at them, so she's helping me get through them.
I suck at most games. I still like them though. The one thing I can't understand is why I feel the need to play a game that I know will really hack me off, that isn't relaxing! But I sometimes need to know that one day I'll complete it and NEVER HAVE TO PLAY THE DAMN THING AGAIN! In that vein I'll have Contra HC completed by the time I'm eighty.

and to awnser your question : yes why do you think i hate the damn things and dont like to play them ?
Platformers are terribly easy for me, but one of my favorite genres nonetheless. Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 gave me alot of trouble as a child, but now I can 100% them quite easily. Classics, to say the least.
I can do platform games but always used to get beat at 2 player games on the megadrive/snes by friends, the past still hurtsQuote:

My worst genre is probably fighters, I never found the genre interesting enough to dedicate time to being good at it, and honestly I don't think I'm missing much.Quote:

I don't think there's an inherent skill, so much as what you like to play enough of to get better at, until you finish it.
Maybe try an easy platforming game, I recommend Garfield on Genesis.
I am decent at shmups and platformers.
I suck at sports and fighting games
I had high hopes for this game, since i like Garfield and it's a good looking game but it has a bad hit detection, slippery controls and if i remember correctly there's a spot in one of the latter levels where you can get stuck. It's an easy game but can be very frustrating due to these problems.Quote:

As far as the main topic goes, I'm the same way with shoot 'em ups and fighters. I want to like shoot 'em ups because they're the kind of arcade genre I feel like I should be able to get into, but I have no real interest in them. I like sh'mups and to a lesser extent, FPSes. I dabbled for a while in Virtua Fighter but what happened is that, although I could see and acknowledge the beauty of its complexity in terms of the strategic opportunities and expression it allowed for players, I still can't find myself being very engaged by the genre, period. Even the simpler SFII is terribly boring to me. The only time I ever truly enjoyed a fighting game was King of Fighters R2 on Neo Geo Pocket Color.
I try to see the merits in every genre to at least understand the appeal of it, but there are some genres I play more of and always will because of my natural inclination to do so.
I was never good at Contra or its clones.
^along the lines of that, last night I realized I was never going to get past that shoot 'em up stage in The Adventures of Batman and Robin. So I tossed on some Game Genie cheats to see what was ahead. I'm not sure that if I could get past that stage, that I'd be able to handle the rest either.
I think psychologically, no matter how much practice you put in, some games/genres will just never click with you. In my case, I'm not sure I even knew shoot 'em ups were a thing back in the day. Never having had any, and rarely having run 'n guns, I just never got used to having so much happening on screen at once. Beat 'em ups were always my favorites, and they were always fairly slow. I sort of got into adventures/RPG's at one point, those are sloooooow. Platformers, even when it's Sonic, don't have much going on. Fighting happens against 1 other character(most of the time). Wrestling is fairly slow paced, with not much going on, and again, usually against 1 other character. Basically the games I did have weren't as frantic as the ones I didn't, and I'm not sure if I can ever catch up to that.
That said, I do feel like I can make progress in Hard Corps, though.
Funnily enough, I found the shooter stage of BM & R easier than the rest of it. I'm currently at the mad Hatter's Boss stage, and it's true, you sometimes do have to psych up a bit in order to get back into the mood to crack something.
The shooter stage in BM & R isn't so much hard as it is excessively long, it just wears you down both mentally and ingame.
Yeah, I did make it to just before the actual end boss, but it took all my lives. Sometimes I'm bad enough to lose a coupe lives on the first stage, before Harley's tank. It's fun, but with some games, the effort to beat them isn't worth it. Also, I'd probably like the game more if it stayed run 'n gun.
I remember being more enamored with beat-em-ups back in the day but somewhere along the road that changed. TMNT, Simpsons, Double Dragon, and Battletoads were among those that I enjoyed. I also remember liking Streets of Rage 2. However, most of them don't do a thing for me. I can't stand Final Fight or even the first Golden Axe or SoR, which are so dreadfully dull, it's like pulling teeth. I spent a lot of time playing simulations too, but since they went on forever without any real goal, I stopped bothering with the genre, which is also why I quit MMOs. But for the most part, my tastes haven't changed much.Quote:
