I think the pink one is worth more than the blue one for some reason. Did you get them boxed or with any kind of accessories?
The pink one was mail-order only, while the blue one came with the game, so of course the pink one is a lot rarer. I just wish there were more Genesis light gun games that supported them...
No accessories or anything. They were loose and saw them in two separate boxes in a game store. So while checking out with them, they originally quoted $100 for the pink one and $20 for the blue one. So I told them no, I'll just get the blue one then. But, since finding the two and that they realized they both go together, they did not want to split them up. But I wasn't about to pay $120. So I scored them both for $40. :P
Well it is not a bad deal from a collector's perspective. I just looked and the pink one alone seems to go for 75-100$ on ebay. I did not know it was worth this much.
Pretty funny as I was looking for genesis lightgun recently. A local store has a nice CIB Sega Menacer for 35$ CAD. I think I will grab it if they still have it next time I go there.
Here they are all cleaned up. Will be playing Snatcher with it tonight.
They are literally mint loosing. Even the lens is nice and smooth.

$40 is a good deal. I got a pair with a Genesis and a handful of games (including Lethal Enforcers) for about $45 a couple years ago and I was happy.
He said he paid $40 for each, so $80 total. They look to be in great condition so I'd say it's worth it.
I meant 40 dollars total, didn't mean each.
Oh, that's even better! But I don't understand... you were gonna pay $100 for just the pink, but they didn't want to separate them, so they let you have both for $40??? I wanna shop there...
I meant just the blue one. :(
I'm sorry, I'm drunk right now.
Haha OK I re-read your edit and it makes sense now. Awesome deal! Local stores sometimes have higher prices but I've always had luck getting great deals there that you'd never find on ebay.
I paid maybe $75 total for my Blue and Red Justifiers on ebay. More for the red than the blue (about $25 and $50). I got them when I was adding peripheral support to SGDK (homebrew Genesis library maintained by Stef over at SpritesMind). SGDK supports 3 and 6 button pads, the Sport Pad trackball for the SMS, the Menacer and Justifier light guns, the Mega Mouse, and both the Sega Tap and the non-Sega Tap (forget the name offhand). I like the Justifier guns better than the Menacer - they don't have as many buttons, but work better as light guns.
The Menacer just looks so terrible and the trigger is so unsatisfying.
Is it possible to mod somehow the Light Phaser to be used as a justifier?
No. They work in completely different ways. The Phazer uses the "old" method of light gunning: you wait until the user pulls the trigger, you set the entire screen to bright white, you then wait for a signal from the gun saying it detects the light and latch the counters, and then reset the screen colors. That's why NES and SMS light gun games flash when you pull the trigger. Newer light guns don't need nearly as much light to detect the screen, and so don't flash the screen. You get a continuous signal from the gun to latch the counters, and just use the values when the user pulls the trigger.
And the blue gun doesn't work. At least on snatcher. Always aiming bottom left. I'm using my old CRT TV too. Tried other genesis systems to no avail.
I just noticed that the tin cans surrounding the photodiode has tin whiskers
I can't pump this old tube TV up any further. If I turn up contrast up any further, it does try to register, but it's so weak and off target by 7".

Does anyone know what kind of photodiode the justifier uses? I didn't pop off the tin whiskered metal can around it yet to see.
No help? I guess I'll just repair it myself and keep the part numbers to me only. :p
Shove that thing in the dish washer ( in parts ). I bet It'll work like new after :p
Heh, I'll do what I can to document it. I was kidding about not sharing.
Thing is, no part numbers appear to be on it.
From my glimpse last night, it has the shoddiest soldering I have ever seen. Looks like they soldered with plumbing solder, no lie.
What do you mean by plumbing solder? As in way to much solder applied?
I recently came upon a genesis console that did not work. Nothing happening, not light, nothing.
After touching the AC adapter and noticing it was very hot I realized there was a short.
So I open it up and saw a shitton of solder apparently randomly applied in the AC connector area, shorting many areas together, in addition some heavy gauge wire was soldered there too, for no apparent reason. A lot of WTF ensued, then I cleaned all that mess up and the Genesis worked fine after that. Still wondering what kind of nutjob worked on that thing.
Maybe the same tard that worked my genesis tried to repair your lightgun?
Plumbing solder, as in the finish is just rough as hell, something like you see used on pipes (I was certain it's a different mix for the solder), rough, doesn't stick well to the PCB, and just looks crummy. Even the IC is slanted.
I'll take mine apart and see if I can make out anything. Hopefully they're not ALL unmarked.
EDIT: Good lord, there's a bunch of screws! Why do you need that many screws on a fake gun? :daze:
Anywho, that took a few seconds, and there's an enclosure soldered over the photodiode. I really don't feel like desoldering that... not even sure where my solder-sucker is at the moment. It doesn't appear like a machine soldered board - looks hand done. But it's also not the worst solder job I've ever seen. :D
EDIT 2: Didn't notice any "whiskers" on the enclosure. It was slightly discolored, and that was it.
Also check to see if you see tin whiskers on the metal cage surrounding the photo diode. I'd like to see if this is a common issue or not.
Hmm they may have used different metals. Mines not discolored but definitely has whiskers. I'll De solder it sometime this weekend.
Maybe. I think they have it for two reasons - first, to block light around the sensor (ain't nothing getting through that metal), and second, RF suppression - the signal from the diode is going to be pretty weak and transitory, so they REALLY don't want RFI causing false signals.
I might try working on one of these this weekend, as well. I have two guns that both don't hit the bottom left of the screen, no matter which TV I connect it to. Makes playing LE fucking annoying.
