Konami's X-Men is an overrated piece of shit, that's what it is.
^The combat's more engaging than Konami's previous beat 'em up efforts.
I find a lot of Konami beat'em ups to be shallow but fun.
I've got too much nostalgia attached to the X-Men arcade machine to be a neutral judge of its quality.
Pretty much(including both TMNT games and the Simpsons). The later Crime Fighters games(Vendetta, and especially Violent Storm, which borrows from the Final Fight style) were pretty good though. I liked Metamorphic Force quite a bit too, and that's just a tweaking of the X-Men engine.
i have no nostalgia attached to konami's x-men at all ( despite being a fan of the x-men well claremonts run anyway )
its a passable game
rather shallow and i still havent been welcomed to die
ot maybe i just wasnt paying attention
cant say i regret buying it on psn though now buying accelration of shugri X and malicious those i do regret
I thought I had nostalgia for The Simpsons and X-Men, but once they came out on XBLA I pretty much played them through once with a buddy and never picked them up again. Too many generic combos, and unlimited credits ruins a good Arcade beat-em up. Crime Fighters is pretty great, and I actually like the insert coin for more health aspect, rather than just buying continues. For a home version they could have made it increase your health after a certain number of points/kos. Also, more beat-em ups need kicks to the balls and guns that work like real ones.
Emulated quarter feeding will never take away my memories of that dimly-lit Pizza Hut.
They also had a Raiden machine that was unbelievably still there up until last year... but it's gone now.
there was a lotta fan service, and comic fans were used to shitty games for many gens prior. it's not bad but the engine got repetitive, he said after beating XML 1 & 2 as well as MUA 1 & 2, heh
also the classic Konami coin-op is like most other beat-em-ups of its time: if you're not playing with friends, you're doing it wrong
...nah, man
i played that with like 5 other friends at an arcade earlier this year, and we had a blast
That's how you've got to do it. Playing it on your phone or piss4 by yourself just isn't the same.
I'm a big fan of XML 1 & 2. Being a big X-Men fan, the appeal came from being able to pick from a large cast of the series' characters, play around with a bunch of their powers, and the overall simplicity of it's gameplay, which made it easy for just about anyone to join you in a game without the pressure of a steep learning curve - Just mash the buttons and you're doing some cool superhero shit.
It's mindless co-op fun in a similar way that some Lego games appeal to me.
