I'm talking about this. What the hell were Capcom smoking when they localised it? I get it; Street Fighter was selling like hot cakes, so just throw it in as part of that series, but this is such a lazy ass-pull it's unreal.
Any thoughts?

I used to be convinced this game was released in Japan as a different game and localized with the "Street Fighter" title just to boost sales, but apparently not.
It's not really the worst game in the world, but there's almost nothing Street Fighter about it.
The only theory I could figure is it that wasn't unusual for Famicom/NES versions of arcade games, especially Capcom's, to be vastly different from their source material but if that's what happened here they REALLY went crazy.
It was released five months before Street Fighter 2 essentially codified the fighting game genre, so you have to take it in the context that they were playing around with ideas from the first Street fighter and trying to "console-ize" it with platforming elements. The end result is this oddity.
Given that the game pre-dates Street Fighter II, I don't think the name would have done much to increase sales. I love Street Fighter 2010 and consider it one of the NES' better action platformers. I was playing it recently with the Game Genie code for increased character speed.
Street Fighter II is a Final Fight spin off which began as a proper sequel. This is just yet another, more distant relative. It's nothing unusual as far as video games go.
Dr Mario, Yoshi's Island, Luigi's Mansion and Super Princess Peach are all Donkey Kong spin offs.
Awesome game that is tough as hell.
